Colton jumper most tackles

I know it seems like way too many teams run wide on this defense and seem to be able to hit the edge for nice gains, I guess that's where we are missing the speed of JRM, and Kirkland Jr.

Jumper should never see the field. The keyboard coaches of VN said this. So I dont understand why this guy is playing? Why does Shoop believe in him?

T Kelly Jr. had 10 Abernathy had 9 and Gaulden 8 with 7 solo. Hope we can get Maybin back at least by the Bama game maybe Kirkland after the bye week.

Jumper must not read volnation very much. Doesn't that young man know he sucks. If not for his father he may not be on the team at all! :devilsmoke:

I think he got some experience, and it's paying off for him.

Jumper 4 Heisman!?!?!?

McDowell was terrible all day yesterday including the long TD to #18 who was his cover. McDowell looks like he has never seen a football field but I don't hear near the hate.

That's because they're too focused on the player that shouldn't even be out there according to them.

Colton is playing well enough.
McDowell needs to turn it up this week.

Colton's doing well. But there is a difference without JRM in the game.

Bear with me--I'm comparing Colton and JRM not because they share a position (that would be Colton and Kirkland, not JRM), but because they seem to be sharing the role of "leading tackler."

Colton typically meets the running back and tackles him around 2-3 yards on our side of the scrimmage line. In other words, at about LB depth of the defense.

JRM typically meets the running back at the line of scrimmage. In other words, 2-3 yards sooner. He just has an incredible nose for the ball and great quickness to meet it earlier.

So I guess this is lamentation that we're missing Jalen more than it is a comment on Colton, who I think is doing very well. Just understanding that there is a cost to not having Darrin and, especially, JRM in the game.

Good for Colton. After all the crap he's caught the last two years all he's done is kept working and got better and we are seeing results.

He isn't our best LB. And he won't be by years end I think either. But he has become a pretty solid member of a beaten up LB corp and stepped up when we needed him to.

Cudos Colton. Well done young man.!

He just doesn't have the speed of Mayben and Kirkland, but he gives 100% and gets his reads correct, playing pretty good
