Tennessee (6-1) at South Carolina (5-2), 12:30 ET GamePlan
Why to watch: This is it. This is Tennessee's SEC East title game with only Vanderbilt and Kentucky to go, but South Carolina isn't going to roll over and die. The Gamecocks have had two weeks off to rest and recuperate after a disappointing and bizarre two game stretch losing to Ole Miss and beating woeful Kentucky 12-7. This is a big chance to finally beat a good team again, something USC hasn't been able to much of over the last two years, and can even have an outside shot at the SEC East title with a win.
Why Tennessee might win: The South Carolina offense has suddenly become a mess. The quarterback situation is a weekly concern as Dondrial Pinkins is having a problem with a rotator cuff and Syvelle Newton is banged up. The balanced offense from the beginning of the year has suddenly floundered due to the inconsistencies and will have a problem exploding on a defense on a defense that's allowing 20 points per game.
Why South Carolina might win: It's not like Tennessee is blowing anyone out. Sure the Vols are winning, but in SEC play beat Florida by two, Georgia by five, and Ole Miss and Alabama by four, so this should be a tight game. The Gamecock defense is the best in the Lou Holtz USC era currently 12th in the nation in total defense and four in scoring D only allowing 11 points per game.
Who to watch: The Tennessee running game isn't dominating like it was in the beginning of the year, but the Alabama, Auburn and Georgia run defenses had a lot to do with that. Even so, junior Gerald Riggs Jr. has been strong rushing for 220 yards in the two road games, but he's hurting with an elbow problem. Cedric Houston, Tennessee's other star back, is having a problem with an ankle injury. To beat the South Carolina defense, these two need to do whatever they can to generate some production.
What will happen: Will the South Carolina offense show a sign of live again? This will be a hard-hitting, hard-fought defensive battle with the team that makes the fewer mistakes getting the win. Each team has turned it over 16 times this year, but USC is better at forcing mistakes.
