College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

He has practically infinite job security at Bama and has already said no to Kentucky. He would be JAG at UNC unless he won a natty there. I think he stays.

And he is a bit of a system guy and the resources UNC could award him for recruiting could have diminishing returns.

So I agree. He can win anywhere. Why leave?

Internet rumors swirling that Will Wade is going to ditch NC State for a return to LSU after one season lol.
That has been rumored for a while. Allegedly, he isn't "the right fit" for NCSU. So, this may be amicable split for both. Fans are kinda mixed on him and he's rubbed some people the wrong way.

I’m going to get blasted for even joking about this, but Barnes leaving for UNC would be the most UT thing possible.

I guess I don’t get why they hired him then. He’s not subtle about his approach to roster development or coaching, and his abrasive personality is a trait he prides himself on. They knew what they were getting themselves into. So, it’s weird to hear them say he isn’t a good fit.

Another thought about Will Wade to LSU, while I think he’s a good coach, I’m not convinced this is the right move for either party.

He found a lot of success in the SEC when it was only just starting to improve the quality of basketball in the conference. The SEC he will be entering today is not the SEC of yesterday. Heck, Chris Beard is currently coaching a bottom feeder in the conference. It wouldn’t shock me if this ultimately went poorly for LSU.

I guess there is always the chance LSU gives him a blank check to recruit, but they have now invested a significant amount of money in the Lane Kiffin train, and their baseball program. Wade would have a lot less competition and an easier path to the tournament in the ACC than he will here.

I agree. I can't remember where he was on their list of choices, so maybe he wasnt the first option. Additionally, you don't always know how much you like or don't like someone until you are around them all the time. Intricacies and quirks are more noticeable.

He issued a public lashing and callout against his own team similar to what Kim Caldwell did. He also publicly called his team soft, questioned their heart and intensity, and criticized the team's ability to finish games at different points of the season. Following the Texas loss in the play-in game, he said this was the worst NCSU team we will have. All things that may be true, but he built the roster.

You talking about Will Wade or Rick Pitino?

Apparently there is enough money to both land Wade (buyout drops to $3 mil on 4/1), pay him, and to build a roster.

Oh and pay McMahon $8 mil to go away.

I can’t wrap my head around how we were reading about how LSU failed to cheat Kelly out of his buyout, to making Kiffin one of the highest paid coaches, to $40 million NIL, to this basketball budget.

Just salaries: We’re talking about $100 million on football and now power moves in basketball. We can also assume women’s basketball and baseball are very competitive.
