Is there a more iconic song in college football than "Rocky Top"? Technically, it's not Tennessee's official fight song. (That would be "Down the Field.") But "Rocky Top" has served as the school's unofficial fight song since it was first played at a Volunteers football game in 1972. The song, first recorded by the Osborne Brothers in 1967, became Tennessee's official state song in 1982. But there's nothing quite like hearing 100,000 people sing the tune together inside Neyland Stadium on a Saturday in the fall. – Greg Ostendorf

These are the worst

I love the woo discussion. That's why I responded as I did. I was there before and after the woo. My game day experience hasn't changed whatsoever. It's all good when everyone in orange is having fun, woo or no woo.

It is funny, though, how that part just crept into the song. Now it's a fixture. The woo is here to stay.

Even though I was probably at the game when it first started, I have no idea how it started. I used to partake more than I do now though. There's a lot that I don't remember. Lol

I used to Wooooo a lot on Friday and Saturday nights when I was young but now that I am old, my Wooooo has turned into more of a Wo. :)

Down the Field or Rocky Top...Can they just change the fight song so that people will at least get it right.

95 GA i think. i can attest to the BAC. i choose 95 GA b/c it wasn't there in 94. and it was by 96 FL.

95 GA was an epic game that if a "woo" was going to come from Rocky top, it might as well have been there.

safe to say, i can't remember for sure. but it happened in 95. sometime. it's all a bit hazy.

I had a friend that showed up at halftime of that Georgia game. He thought it was a night game. He was so pissed. Yes, his BAC was elevated as well.
