I hear alot about which one of these guys will be best for the upcoming season. We know that Crompton has alot of talent and he plays with alot of heart. If you ask me, thats exactly what our narcoleptic offense needs.

What do we know about Coleman that consistently puts him in the mix for this years starter. I mean, we know virtually nothing about this guy, other than his recruiting status.

Am I missing something. Does Coleman have more of an upside? Is Crompton lacking in the arm department or accuracy? He definitely has as much heart as anyone on the team. He looks like agreat leader to me, and he isn't scared to scramble or take a hit.

many seem to think Coleman has all the physical tools to compete for the job htis year, and judging by some of the things i've read about him, the players generally respect him and view him as a leader. and for a team that's needed on the field leadership, that's not a bad thing.

Crompton is the better athelete, and also has a strong arm and has more experience than BJ. we all know the talent the kid has when came to UT, there's some that still thinkt he shoulder isn't quite right though.

it's going to be interesting to see what the new off. staff thinks. i think at this point it has to be considered an open position.....

Crompton is a gunslinger. He is a little wild out there with the football. He has a strong arm and can scramble around well. He's not scared to lower his shoulder.

Coleman plays within himself a little more. Coleman is the leader of the 2007 class. Coleman is the most accurate QB on the roster. He's got a big arm himself.

Both of these guys have better mobility then Ainge.

Whoever picks up the offense the best will play.

i do hope though that it's not a long drawn out qb competition.....i'd hate to go in to Summer and in to fall still wondering who the qb is going to be.....who ever gets it, i hope steps in and starts fast and impresses early on. i think developoing chemistry with the WR's will be crucial, as well as learning all the new terminology, shifts and whatever formations DC brings to the table....

I still think it's Crompton's to lose. I mean Coleman is super-young with absolutely zero experience. Not to mention he wasn't even that great coming out of high school. He is definitely a student of the game, and I think he will eventually get his chance to lead TN's offense before all is said and done. But let's be realistic here, this kid isn't going to be ready this year.

I think it will be Crompton too. He has 3 years experience withe the program, albeit 1 as a redshirt. While the system will be changing somewhat, this should still put him mentally ahead of Coleman.

More importantly, he also has real game experience including a start on the road against Ark in '06, and
playing 80% of the way against LSU in '06.

I would be shocked if he's not the man come this fall.

Whoever Clawson feels gives us the best chance to win. Clawson has no preconceived notions about either guy and has no favorites. It should be a fair competition. Either one of these guys (or Stephens or Kelly) will be an improvement.

That being said do you think they keep from naming a starter so Florida doesn't know who to prepare for?

We need to worry about getting past UCLA first. By the time UF rolls into Knoxville, our personnel will be set.

I don't see that gaining you much. They are essentially the same type of QB. If we were talking Perriloux vs Flynn or Scheaffer vs Ainge, then it would maybe make a difference.

I read something right after the new year that crompton is excited about being the man. I got the impression he hated ainge bc crompton wanted to be the man, which is kind of crappy as a teammate but thats what we need, a fighter who wants to step up and be the leader

Don't leave out Stephens, he could be a blessing in disguise. In Texas he was highly regarded [top 3 QB] and many think his arm is the strongest of the QBs. I don't think mobility will much of a factor this year considering the play of our OL. I still think Crompton wins the starting job because of his experience. Whoever is deemed the starter will be a good, maybe even great QB, so regardless of who wins the job, I'm pumped.

It was my impression that the one area Crompton is lacking is between the ears when it comes to the offense. I don't know if that had to do with Coach Cut's offense of just in general.

If Crompton decides to put his shoulder down all year we will see Coleman, I'm sure. If Tebow can't go all year w/o injury, Crompton won't be able to.

That's a very irrational assumption given the lack of playing time amongst our group of quarterbacks.

Can we please table these discussions till we are in July or August. Maybe a little "small" discussion after the O&W game.
Its way to early to be talking about this.

Yeah but its fun! Man I miss football.... We have to do something to fill our hunger until it starts.

Oh, this avatar might be as good as the other one, I am still deciding!:good!:

I think if Crompton starts we'll eventually see Coleman/Stephens. Crompton will lower the shoulder, good or bad, I don't know... But, there should be no doubt that Crompton has the desire to win...

i just hope we don't play the 2 headed QB....just settle on one to run the offense
