Coleman Thomas Getting Abused

He had a really, really bad game. It made the whole line look like garbage. To be fair Dobbs had a bad game too. He made some really bad decisions that aren't normal for him.

Agreed. Dobbs didn't excel when the protection wasn't there (which was most of the called passing plays). In 2015, the difference between Oklahoma and UT was Mayfield was under heavy duress yet made plays and Dobbs couldn't equally excel when the protection broke down.

I'm beginning to wonder if Dobbs isn't able to make all his reads because he's constantly expecting to be running for his life? Quality pass blocking has been the exception during his playing time at UT.

Simply not true. Surely you DVRed the game. Go back and rewatch it. Don't follow the ball, only watch the LOS. Appy played a 3-4 defense and the OLB's weren't run blitzing. Appy's smaller DL lined up and kicked the living shat out of our much larger OL.

P.S. It wasn't only CT who got embarrassed on the OL.

If I know the play that is about to be run, you can sure bet the opposing coaches do.

My last attempt at this...

Before UT snapped the ball, if Dobbs yelled to the defense "we're going to hand the ball to Hurd and he's going to pick a hole to run through", do you think this information alone would allow their 250 lb NT to knock CT on his arse or to beat a double team? Even if they knew the play that was coming, the best they should have been able to do with the markedly smaller personnel was create a log jam at the LOS, not penetrate our LOS with only 3 defensive linemen on the LOS.

Please, please go back and rewatch the game and focus on the LOS - you will be shocked at how bad it is.

C Thomas is weak and is very consistent at getting his tail whipped. Richmond I will give time. Thomas has to go along with Wiseman. They both could not block me.

What we witnessed last night is excellent effective coaching, unfortunately it was our opponents. A coach's job is to upgrade the skill levels of players every year but the Vol coaches have failed miserably to do this. I saw no improvement in our team and certainly no improvement in our coaching. I would swap our coaching staff with ASU in a heartbeat. They took supposedly lower level players and have coached them up to a higher level while our coaches have not improved the skill set of any player. Dobbs is not an SEC level QB, our play calling is high school level at best and our lines on both sides of the ball is terribly inefficient. Whiff Thomas wouldn't start for any Sunbelt team as he spent the most part of last night's game on his arse watching the ASU playrs flying by on their way to Dobbs. On many of ASU's running plays the ball carrier had a hole big enough for a furniture truck to pass through untouched, Hurd wasn't so lucky and had to earn each yard he gained. ASU probably averaged 5 yards on first down while the Vols maybe averaged two. I would give our coaching a failing grade as they have not done their jobs very effectively.

I keep seeing this excuse, and it is absolutely untrue. Our line was getting beat by a base, rush 4 defense.

You know who was behind those 4? 4 or 5 more. We literally had one 4 wide set all night.
