Coker

He was in the stands for the sidelines. He will be going to classes in the fall so he must be close to finished with the counseling. It is still up to Hamilton to let him back and whatever other suspensions Fulmer may give him but I think he will be back with the team at least by the UF game.

Maybe, it depends on if he completes enough credit hours to reenroll and if he is admitted. I'm sure the coaches would take him back, though.

From what I have heard, their were exceptional measures employed to keep Coker sober. At this point it is up to him to follow through.

When's the earliest Morley can be back? At the beginning of next season?

He has to go thru the process of getting back in school. Then he has get back on the team. I would be shocked to ever see him play college ball again.

Yes, and it sounds like he would be able to use this season as his redshirt so next year he would be a sophomore.

Wow, i thought he would lose a year of eligibility. Now back to Coker, what's the chances that he won't blow it again even if he does get back on the team.

I honestly would be surprised if he is able to stay on the team if he gets back. I've seen it too many times, ala James Banks.

As for Morley, he would still have 2 to play 2.

I misspoke, I meant he would still be a junior as he would have been this season. Obviously he couldn't go back and be a sophomore again as he was last year.

Just after Coker's suspension, I read a quote from CPF, suggesting that Coker's time off the team was largely up to him (Coker) in that he will be the one to determine how quickly he completes whatever requirments have been given him for reinstatement. Fulmer even said the suspension could range from one week to much longer, depending mainly on Coker himself. Of course it's been more than a week already, but I felt that kind of left the door open for the possibility of his return for the Cal game. But of course there are more important things at stake in this than football, I suppose. AND, given the nature of this violation, a quick return to the team would probably not do much for the image of our program at this point.

Addictions are tough. Hope the best for Cocker. Maybe he'll see Banks as his inspiration to stay clean. But, sometimes it goes deeper. If he has a true physiological dependnecy, he's in for a long haul, and probable future violations leading to departure. If he's just "junkin" up recreationally, shame on him. Either way, that's why you never touch the stuff. You have absolutely no idea how your system responds to chemical dependency. If your susceptible to chemical dependence, one toke is all it takes, and you struggle the rest of your days to stay clean.

I agree. Right off the top of my head I don't recall any UT players in the Fulmer era that have been suspended from the team for drug use that have then successfully completed multiple years on the team afterward without being permanently kicked off the team. On the other hand, I can recite a list of players that were kicked off the team permanently. I'm not certain that Coker will ever play for UT again, but I'd be absolutely shocked if he completes his senior season at UT still playing on our football team.

This reminds me of when Reggie Cobb had a positive drug test I think for cocaine, and Majors immediately kicked him off the team for good.

Of course he was already splitting time with Chuck Webb at RB at the time.

Reggie Cobb got kicked off UT's team when he failed his fourth drug test.

Just to clarify,I assume when you say one toke you are talking about smoking crack not smoking pot right?

I will be totally surprised if Morley is not back in orange next season. He has been spotted around Knoxville and is currently enrolled in classes. I think he will be back. He is an NFL defensive back if he can make the grades. He is throwing away millionaire status if he doesn't play again. Like I said though, I think he will be back on the field for the 2008 season.
