Who's the starter now?? I like Foster and Coker to share the duties for the most part with Foster starting. Coker ran over a Sun-Belt team last night so he's shaking off the rust and getting better. The only thing I don't like about Coker is he dances to much in the backfield against SEC teams. Coker will be the starter next season if he's around, but this year he will have to share time with Foster and its going to be a good 1-2 punch once Coker gets his game legs under him.

Creer and to a lesser extent, Hardesty, also throw a monkey wrench in things.

Creer is getting playing time in almost every game, and continues to look impressive (for a freshman anyway).

He will be a great back before he is done here, it just depends on how quickly he develops. That could be before the end of this season, or next season, hard to say.

Foster has looked so-so so far. Hasn't really impressed me a lot. But we will see, once the SEC competition starts cooking up. I have a feeling he will still get the start since the coaches feel he is the more "complete back."

I've been saying since Coker was in high school that he should be starting for us as soon as he got here. Foster may be the hardest worker on the team, but apparently hard work isn't paying off too much for him. He does look good sometimes, but other times he's just not there. Until we play Georgia though, I'm not really confident saying either should start. Foster had 125 against USM and Coker and 101 against ASU which in my mind means they haven't proven anything. One thing that isn't up for debate in my mind is that every time Coker touches the ball he is a threat to score which isn't something we desperately need this year.

Not to mention Coker seems to be the back that fumbles the ball the LEAST.

I know everyone on here talks about Foster's "history of fumbling" and the topic came up in regards to creer, and at least 1-2 people said "well creer has one now."

Coker seems to just hold on to the ball more. Maybe that is due to less touches, or less STARTING touches, but I don't know.

I'm just glad it seems that Coker is finally getting out of the doghouse, though its coming because of our mediocrity

The question is, can Coker stay out of the doghouse. I'm all for Coker getting playing time, but I don't want our team to start depending on him if he can't keep his nose clean.

I never saw any depth chart that listed him as the starter.

I didn't either...

I feel the same way. I think he realizes he let the team down with the suspension and hopefully he'll at least keep clean for the team. But who knows.

Fulmer said that before Coker was suspended he was first string. It may not have been on any "depth chart" but Fulmer made reference to this a few times during Fall practice, but I could be wrong.

The fumbles seal the deal for me

Coker should be the starter

I'm not going to say you're wrong b/c I dont know for a fact. I just know that Cutcliffe talked of using Coker in many different ways before the season started. Maybe by first string he meant "starting playmaker" or something :)

I've been wrong before and if I am wrong this time it sure won't be the last.

Foster was going to get the start this year at Cal regardless of whether Coker was suspended or not

there is no debate. Coker is the better running back and gives our offense more options. If he can keep his head away from is arse, he plays. Otherwise, Foster plays and Coker spells him some as punishment.

I kind of liked the formation last night where Coker was lined up at WR and Creer was RB.

Agree.

I like them getting Coker some touches in space by putting him in the slot, but I don't want them to use him like that exclusively.

He needs to touch it out of the backfield, BUT, i don't want to see "coker up the middle for 2 yards" 3 times in a row, which CPF seemed to do a few times last year. I want to see him on counter traps, sweeps, tosses, etc. Something to get him to the outside and get him in space from the backfield.

But I do like lining him up at the slot on occasion with Creer in the backfield. That gives us alot of option, speed, and even power.

Phil i believe is just to nice. He sees a young man that really took that fumble against penn st hard. He dedicated himself this offseason, got bigger and stronger. It may have cost him a step though as he looks slower. Anyway phil rewarded him with the chance to earn the number one job. Coker must have been less than impressive in the spring. Foster was just better in the spring. But against our run defense. Now you know why he has the starting job. Even foster made it look bad. Coker will be getting about half the snaps if not more the rest of this season.
