According to Rivals.com:

"Candidates to replace Kiffin at Tennessee include Air Force’s Troy Calhoun, Syracuse’s Doug Marrone, Duke’s David Cutcliffe and TCU’s Gary Patterson."

Patterson seems like the best possibility for someone who might be able to apply a tourniquet to this mess. But honestly, none of the names jump off the page at me. Whoever gets the nod is going to have his work cut out for him.

I say no to all the above. This is Tennessee .. not South Carolina. We can get better coaches than these.

Patterson is the guy. Petersen won't leave BSU. Muschamp makes Orgeron look smart. Rest are a bunch of also-rans.

I have a question, can someone please explain why he left? Leaving after one year just seems crazy? What am I missing here?!!

PLEASE go after chris peterson. He is a proven winner with two undefeated seasons already under his belt. These mid major guys will jump to the SEC if you go the Bama route and give them total control of the program and $4 or $5 mill a year.

I would think USC is his "dream job".

Timing is terrible. It is going to take a big name hire quick to salvage this recruiting class.

Because is home is in CA. He went to school in CA and loves USC. If Fulmer or Majors were at USC I bet they would jump at a chance to get back to TN because there home state is where their heart is. It is a good move for Kiffin because he wanted to be a PAC-10 coach first, but there were no openings so he took the TN job.

Oh, I see. I didn't realize that made such a big difference.

Something tells me that Fulmer or Majors would jump regardless of where they are!

I agree with NEWCOACH.
Gruden, Peterson, Patterson, Muschamp/Cutcliffe...

I actually wanted Gruden to replace Fulmer, but I don't know how well NFL coaches (especially long-time like Gruden) will adjust to the fast-paced college game. For that same reason, I don't want Cowher or Dungy.

And if we hire Mora Jr., then I'm really going to be pissed.

I think it will be Muschamp. If he leaves, it will not affect Texas like CLK leaving here. Patterson and other coaches have too much class to put their teams in Tennessee's position. It would be nice to bring in Jeremy Bates as the OC since Chow is going to SC. Dennison is the new OC in Denver. Hopefully da Bears don't hire Bates. A Muschamp Bates combo would be good. This is the worst day in UT history.

Too low of standards. Start with Gruden, Peterson, Patterson, Muschamp.

Cutcliffe? Marrone? NOOOO

The lists of those guys are from the "only hire inside the family" idiots. I do not want continuity from guys who cannot recruit and who will have TN as the third best team in the SEC East.

I agree with the poster above. If we got the Boise State head coach we already know he knows how to beat Oregon...

I thought we didnt shoot high enough when we hired lane either. I say we pull out all the stops and start with the top 5 and pay them to come coach at a real football program. It should be on trouble money talks and remember its a business now sadly. Lane made me like him and took a dump in my lunch. His day will come. Who knows this could be a blessing in disguise.Go Vols!

Leach, Leavitt, Harbaugh, and Patterson have proven they can win with less. Muschamp is unproven, but his upside is "through the roof." Texas's defense has been no joke.
