Coach VOLitello’s current contract?

If the Vols are serious about getting back in the mix as a top university in all sports, they have to act like big boys and girls and pony up. Plain and simple.

Once upon a time Vols baseball was highly competitve, track was literally world class, football was playing for conference and national titles, womens bball was on top of the world, softball was at or near the top, men's bball was the only sport struggling back in the day (now it's not).

Pay up, make a statement, retain a top notch baseball coach, send a message and let the chips fall where they may....

NOT Enough. Renegotiate his contract and make him the highest paid Coach in the SEC. Worth the Long Term investment. He is clearly spoken and can get it done. At the least we will be in the hunt. Clearly the best Coach in the SEC and will get the job done....Love his no nonsense approach. Best Coach on Staff at this time....

Well so be it....why not pay him. Quality Coach that you don't want Poached. Corbin has stuck with Vandy and he has done well and will continue to do so. We have a tendency of not finding nor keeping a long term investment. Ensure Tony V never wants to leave here not because of the money alone but because of the love of the fans, the facility, and the commitment by UTK to our Program....This is one time I would advocate paying the Premium to secure a coach....Tony V has no control but I hope that the NCAA addresses the Scholarship issues and adds a Coach to the Staff.

We talk about UT not keeping quality coaches. Who are we possibly talking about?

Kevin O'Neal who left in an huff on an imaginary slight
Cuonzo Martin who left when his underperforming team was able to capitalize on very favorable bracket to a Sweet 16-

You can't make Vitello this highest paid coach in a conference with coaches that have had actual titles and and trophies
That is financially irresponsible and similar irresponsibility is what nearly bankrupted the UTAD

UT paid Kevin Steele $900,000 for doing nothing. Making it even dumber, Steele made no extra money because this was subtracted from the $5 mil Auburn owed him. So all UT did was basically send Auburn $900,000. If we can find the money for this we surely can find the money to keep Vitello, even if it makes him the highest paid baseball coach in SEC. At least we are getting something for our money.

I don't disagree with anything you stated. I do however think there is another factor at play. College baseball coaches salaries are due for an adjustment up. Actually seems to be already happening. Vitello's increase will probably raise other coaches with a more decorated resume. I also think LSU and A&M will further raise the bar. If Vitello becomes the highest paid in the SEC, I don't think it will be for very long.

That 900k was over 2 years. Really peanuts in the grand scheme of football, and I get why they did it.

Vitello will get paid- not sure why people are worried about our end at this point. If he leaves, it’s because he wanted to leave.

The last time I remember losing a coach to another school we really wanted to keep was Doug Dickey to Florida. Am I missing anyone?
