Coach Vitello Is Building A Dynasty

Well that’s what Oklahoma, Notre dame, Oregon, thought in football. Let’s not get over our skis.
Except 3 jobs equivalent to better than those came open. SCar and perhaps UF are the only “major” potential job openings I see on the horizon this year. SCar wouldn’t entice him if he didn’t leave or entertain AM or LSU (assuming the interest from those sides was genuine) or TCU, where he has history, once Schloss left for AM. I don’t see him at UF even if it opens but that’s the only job that would make me pause because the potential is endless there, given the state talent and his recruiting skills; he would absolutely clean up. I believe him when he talks about loyalty but it cuts both ways. If he gets what he needs/wants, within reason, then I believe he sticks with us. We appear to be well on the way to doing that. I know it’s HS but I look at his dad spending 35 years as a HC at one school and can’t help but think that resonates with CTV.

Agree. UF is a dynasty waiting to happen, and the one I fear the most of those coming open (if it does). Great facilities, a warm weather school, and a built-in talent base for recruiting. But Tony strikes me as the kind of guy who would build a dynasty at Tennessee just because they told him he couldn't.

Sully’s already built it into one, to a degree. 7 trips to Omaha in 14 years, 2 NC appearances, 1 title, 4 - 50 win seasons, 5 regular season SEC championships etc. Everyone wants to label Corbin and Vandy as the standard bearers when Sully has accomplished just as much in 1/3 less years.

I’m convinced that Sully comes off as such an ass that people refuse to acknowledge his accomplishments.

The other possibility is that Florida is such a fickle fan base that they never get the fan support to drive narratives.

TV will pass Delmonico in my opinion but a dynasty is John Wooden winning 10 national championships in 12 years.

What is the "unofficial" "official" definition of a sports dynasty? Not sure if it varies by sport. I would guess 3 championships in 5 years? 4+ over a 10 year span?

I’d say we’re seeing the culmination of him building a “program”. At this point, I think media members will start to see Tennessee as a contender year-in and year-out. Next step is to win a championship. Once you have multiple championships within a few years of each other, then you can start to claim a dynasty.

A dynasty is when you talk about that sport you are the team that comes to mind. When kids are being recruited, you are one of the schools that every player wants to go to. I would say we are moving toward that but for now it will continue to be Vandy, Florida, and LSU in the South and midwest. Oregon State in the west. I have no clue in the north. The style of play is also intriguing to young players more than Vandy or Florida. But the money is still better in Vandy. I heard what the QB for UT was being offered in NIL money (6 figures pushing 7 figures) and wondered when that money would make it ways toward baseball with the success we are having. If the NIL money comes then you can compete with Vandy all day. That is their one ability to outrecruit you is they can tell anyone you have a full ride here.

I think this describes more of a "blue blood" status than "dynasty." A sports dynasty can happen in the short term due to championships, while blue bloods become synonymous with the sport due to a more long term success. Of course, teams can be/become both and championships are needed for that sort of success, but they come more in clusters.

A good example to me for college baseball is Cal State Fullerton. Maybe not as much recently, but from 1990-2010 they made 11 CWS series and won 2. That is an insane level a success but I would consider that blue blood status over dynasty.

As for actual college baseball dynasties, I think the closest we've got in recent years would be LSU of the 90s (4 championships).

Damn, Linda Evans (I remember her from Big Valley reruns and Lee Majors), Joan Collins, Heather Locklear and Joan Forsythe. Who's the other two ? Emma Samms and Pamela Sue Martin, I cheated. But I can't believe I forgot Emma, love her, I was a teenage boy, then, so I really loved her. Didn't she do Playboy ?

I was ignorant of this info about Florida's coach and program. Thanks for posting it. I doubt they'll get rid of him if he has one bad season here. But if they do, I'll be worried about Tony. Any coach would be crazy not to be interested.

Miami was definitely one; from 1978-2008 they made Omaha 22x, played for 5 titles and won 4. That’s an unbelievable run over 30 years.

He’s flirted with jobs the last 2-3 years and hasn’t had the elite success over that same period, in addition to coming off as a miserable *******. So it may be more of a both parties agree it’s best to separate type of situation.

Yeah, Florida knows they can probably do better if that's the case. Hope they don't intend on going after CTV. It'll be Doug Dickey all over again.
