Tonight (with fulmer and Doug Matthews) was great. First of all I love that fulmer says "we" when discussing the team. He's a true vfl. But he's noncontroversial. He doesn't want to say anything negative about Butch. Doug on the other hand doesn't care so much. They spoke about being inconsistent and he said its all on Butch. He said the team will respond based on the coaches personality. If the coach is content to play a close game that's what will happen. If the coach demands a butt whopping...that's what will happen on the field. He doesn't seem to be sold on Butch.
On other thing that was kinda interesting...fulmer said he believes that kamara is the far better back based on the offense were running and the offensive line issues. He said we end up having to bounce so many runs outside, and kamara is much better at that than Hurd.
Tomorrow will be a huge day in determining butchs legacy here. No excuses. We need to win. But I'm sure there will be pleanty of excuses if we don't get it done.

Is there any reason to believe that we will win tomorrow.. I really hope we do but if we lose this game then Butch does not have the right mentality to compete at the SEC level..

Nowadays, a "coach" isn't just a "coach". I believe they really need to be some type of offensive/defensive guru.

CBJ is great coach (deals with medis, fundraisers, managment, etc..) but not an X/O's guy.

What does he actually bring to the table regarding teaching football?

Exactly this. I agree that he's a good gead coach, but if you're just going to be good in this league, then you need a staff that are guru's at their respective positions or sides of the ball. He has a few guru's in Thigpen, Stripling, Shoop, Gillespie and maybe Martinez, but for those good ones, it only makes the "not so good" ones more apparent; Deboard, Azz, Mahoney.

Butch is the CEO and face of the Tennessee brand right now, and those inadequate coaches, that aren't pulling their weight, will be his downfall if not corrected.

Lastly, in Butch terms, some of the bricks in his staff are breaking this house; let's remove them and place new, BETTER, ones in.

Seth Price wrote an entire book on Butch Jones' offense--the offense Jones refined at Central Michigan and Cincinnati and then brought to Tennessee. His influences as an offensive coordinator were Rich Rodriguez and Mike DeBord, but this is his offense, his philosophy, his strategy for establishing a championship viable offense year-after-year.

We can disagree on its effectiveness, on what kinds of players it needs to find convincing success, or on whether specific failures should be blamed on concept, personnel, or execution.

But what team meeting, what coaches meeting did all these critics attend that gave them the idea that he's not an Xs and Os guy? [rant/off]

Sorry. I'd just read too many criticisms tonight that have no basis in fact. Lemme make this more positive: go read Seth Price's book. It'll open up a whole new layer of appreciation for the game as you watch it.

The sad thing is this thread will be here next week after a win . Fulmer said that ,Matthews said this . The " Majors " problem here is , YOU ran Fulmer and Matthews and Majors off because they did not meet your expectations . NOW Fulmer and Matthews are some how Correct . Tommorow is Game DAY Fulmer and Matthews and Majors DO NOT coach here .

What makes you think he is not an X/O's guy ? He rose from OC ranks. There is a book written about his offensive philosophy and his spread offense. On contrary, whether it is Debord or any other OC, they run his offense in his system. You may like his X/O skills or not thats different but he is definitely all X/O guy.

I read the article explaining Butch's offensive philosophy so I can't argue against him being an X/O guy. However, I think we do need to entertain the possibility that his offensive philosophy may very well suck.
