Wow - why is CBP wasting 5 minutes of his time with this when he could be spending those same 5 minutes improving the half court offense.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Given that he hasn't fixed it in four years, I can't imagine five minutes will make a difference.

One day when CBP is at UK or some other dream job winning national championships you are going to be sorry. You and every other sorry sack that post this nonsense need to back off and appreciate the future if not the present best basketball coach in UT history.

Good 5 minutes. Nice to have a successful coach with a personality.

But expand the field??? No.

I'm not entirely sure what the complaint against expansion would be, beyond the obvious 'if you are questionably the 64th best team, you have no rightful claim arguing for a chance to be no.1'. That is, however, a really good complaint.

But given the constant talk and griping about teams that just didn't make it, or were screwed or whatever, it seems like the difference between the 55th best team and the 70th best team is a difficult one to make with anything close to objectivity. Plus from a viewing standpoint I doubt it would really bother people to watch st. mary's vs auburn in a play-in-type game over, say, whatever was on last night.

Meaning I get the argument FOR expansion, though I don't necessarily agree with it.

Since Bruce is a clown, i want to know right now a better coach than we can hire. And one that would we can actually hire, not a dream hire. Bruce is not a great coach, a good one, but not great. And what he has done for the UT basketball program deserves to be applauded. And while he hasn't gotten us to the Final Four or won us a national championship game, there are a lot of great coaches that it took a while to get to that level. Like I said, Bruce is a good coach, not a great one, but there are hardly any coaches that we could hire that could replace Bruce and do better.

While I'm a big CBP supporter, I can't agree with this statement. With our facilities and pay rate, there are several coaches on a better level than Pearl that we could bring in. I'm not saying to get rid of him by any means, but there are better coaches out there. That being said, I love what Pearl has done so far and wish him great success at UT going forward.

You bring a good point, and you might understand what i was saying, but i'm clarifying the fact that there are hardly any coaches that would leave there school and come here that could do better. Also, he helped bring in those facilities and pay rate, so that's partly attribute to him. He's done stuff in 4 years that no one in UT history did in 96 years and people are bashing like Phil Fulmer was coaching.

I "get" the argument for expansion, but I think it's pointless. No matter how much you expand the field, there's always going to be griping and bitching from the last teams out. Plus, you're just adding teams that have no hope of winning the tournament whatsoever.

Let's face it: a big part of what makes March Madness fun is the fact that, on those certain nights when the stars align and the moon is full, major upsets get pulled off. There's a few every year. People gravitate to the underdog, to the 11-seed that makes a run to the Sweet 16 and gives Duke or UNC a competitive game there. It's not as much fun for the casual fan to watch the chalk inexorably march to the Final Four. I think, by adding more teams, the upsets become fewer and farther between, and the whole thing gets watered down.

That being said, if it were all up to me, I'd yank Arizona, Wisconsin, and Maryland out, and put St. Marys, Creighton and San Diego St. in. I think some of the most interesting early-round games are those which pit a very good mid-major team (as a 10 or 11 seed) vs. a weaker but still decent power conference team (as a 6 or 7). VCU vs. UCLA this year, for example.

he also had an AD who backed bball and wanted to see it succeed (which we haven't had at UT in a long time). Other good coaches have also recruited well to UT only to find no one had their back. Don't think CBP would have ever been hired under the previous admin

Good point, but that's not his fault. Mike made a great hire, but still he has brought enthusiam, excitement, and attention to UT. I love the guy, and sometimes he makes bad decisions, but still this guy has been great for UT.
