I am equally impressed by our players as most are. But I’m going to kick back and see what develops. Our season hasn’t even begun yet. But what I will say is that even though I have followed Kim before she came to Rocky Top; I’m continue to be most impressed with coach and her coaching staff. I just love this young lady. As someone else said a few topics ago I haven’t heard another coach communicate so beautifully ever. She is amazing. GBO! Go Lady Vols. Go Tennessee Coaching Staff. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. And thank you 🙏🏻.

In my original post by “kick back and see” I meant in terms of starting rotation. Not competing with other teams. Although as we know starting lineup can change from game to game.

Will change. Pretty sure thats part of the metrics to incentivize performance. At some point i think it needs to come down to who complements who the best. We’ll get there. 😉🤙🏼🧡

Geez, that is going to be messy and create game delays as the blood will have to be mopped up. Also, blood is terrible for wood floors.

Plus, blood stains are bound to get on the LVs uniforms and do you know how hard it is to remove those????? The poor equipment manager will be a frazzled mess.

Now, if the LVs just run opponents until their hearts explode, that effect stays contained in the body and creates fewer maintenance issues.

I admit, its not as dramatic but maybe Smokey could do a special celebration for each exploded heart, with a nice graphic on the overhead score board.

Just trying to problem solve here.....

this will be a very telling year for Coach Kim's vision....The thing very few realize is how much faster we are. @GameTime sees what I see "cheetahs" ...As long as we can control the matchups, we will run over teams. We don't lose speed going to the pine this year,,,in fact at this time I have NO IDEA who will be our quickest/fastest player...I am predicting "Jaida Civil",,,but Boyd, the wonder twins, and don't forget Kaiya was a track athlete,,,

Coach, I totally agree with you sir.....

Coach Kim has assembled a team of excellent basketball players that are also extremely fast afoot.....No longer, when she makes her famous frequent line shift substitutions, will our opponents be able to catch their breath and recover their equilibrium against a slower second unit on the court....

When Coach Kim was describing how she has to "slow down" her girls during their team practice drills, it gives me conformation that speed is the one elusive element no opponent will be able to adequately prepare for...Our opponents, with wobbly burning legs and tongues stuck to the inside of their mouths, will lead to numerous victories for our girls wearing Orange and White, with Summit Blue trim....

Agreed. Your take is the same as Mayan.

We face the Gamecocks in Columbia this year. That means our freshmen will have a tough OOC schedule plus a full month of SEC matchups in the pre-Columbian part of the schedule to adjust to the new level of play.

If we can be as technically sound in our presses as we are quick, we can keep opposing offenses in calamity.

That was awful! 😝 Apologies to all. I really need to be more wari of posting in the middle of the night.

"You're the best."
"I may be the best, but you're even better."
"No, I'm telling you...I've never seen such spectacular play the way you do!"
"Not only are you the best I've ever seen, you're the best that will ever be!"
"Well, I think you're both amazing! Period!!"

presser takeaways:

not surprised by caldwell's praise of mia pauldo
perfectly fits the system and mold of caldwell's past point guards;
abby beeman (marshall), bri campbell (marshall & gsu) and reshawna stone (gsu)
all were 5'6'' or under, had great command of the offense and could score in bunches

not surprised by caldwell's assessment of kaniya boyd and nya robertson
robertson is more of a scorer and playmaker than a point guard
while boyd's a great defender and hustler, she's still developing on offensive side

loved hearing the progress of alyssa latham and her objectives for the season
if she's able to be consistent like coach said and is able to reach her personal goals
she'll be an all sec candidate, without question

practice takeaways:

the two lineups for the full court press drills via cora hall's write-up;
mia, kaiya, ruby, barker, jersey vs. boyd, mya, coop, lyss, zee

this reminded me of a podcast that was recently shared on twitter by fullcourtchaos
it was a caldwell interview (kim stephens at the time) from february 2022 by championship vision
and one of the insights caldwell shared was on how she determined her playing units
i won't ruin it for those who want to listen to the podcast, which i'll link at the bottom

as we all know, caldwell starters are always subject to change but she did have solidified units
one was spencer, ruby, tess, lyss and jill, the other was boyd, spear, coop, puckett and zee
but caldwell's best and "go to" unit was spencer, spear, ruby, coop and zee
curious to see if these practice lineups become actual in-game units

really happy to hear kaiya wynn has bounced back and is already in the thick of things
i don't know if any of yall will remember this but prior to wynn tearing her achilles
caldwell said that kaiya was the best defender on the team

Definitely a hole in my written vocabulary. I didn’t even consider the correct spelling. This is probably not the first time you’ve brought this specific issue to my attention. 😉🤙🏼🧡

Thanks for the podcast. Learned a lot more. Coach’s system just makes sense when you have her break it down like she does. And good lord, expecting 35 forced TOs while committing less than 12 is quite the goal lol

Her mentioning she evens out her groups but starts each half and ends each half with her best 5

I think the starters will be Mia, Talaysia, Ruby, Barker and Zee. Wouldn’t surprise me if Latham starts though, expecting her to improve a lot. The combinations are honestly endless with this group. Going to be interesting to watch it all unfold. Think we see a lot of Jaida and Kaiya if their defense is as advertised.

And Abby Beeman at 5’4” was the smallest player on the roster yet led the team in rebounds in Kim’s system.

FWIW, last season she said that the starting lineup was based on the previous week's practice performance, as a reward of recognition.

What she said in this presser sounded a little different.

Maybe last season she felt it was needed as an added inducement to encourage day-to-day buy-in from players who were maybe not well suited to the demands of this style of play.
