GoVols247:
*Heupel on Bru McCoy: The beginning portion of practice, we were kind of methodical in ramping him up. There will be some things we have to grow through, but he has a really good understanding of what we’re doing.
* Small sense of relief to have WR Bru McCoy ruled eligible. He’s done it the right way since he’s been here. Now he has the opportunity to go compete with his brothers. Having a chance to hear him tell his dad the news was one of the great moments of my career.
*One benefit of a Thursday night game is that our staff will get a chance to go recruit on Friday, so most of our staff will be out across the state and the region.
* Week 1, just in general, you’re never sure exactly what you’re going to get. Everybody went through a self-scout process in the offseason, so we’ll adjust and tweak things as the game goes on.
*We’d like to play more guys at WR. I do feel like we’ll play more guys than we did a year ago.
*Heupel on LT competition: Both of those guys are going to play. Somebody will run out with the ones. We’ll have a plan for those guys to rotate and what percentage each of them plays.
* I do believe we’re a more mature football team. I’m saying that because of how they’ve handled everything since we’ve gotten back in January. I anticipate us handling the last 48 hours the right way as we head into Thursday night.
*I’m excited to get off the bus with these guys, go through the Vol Walk and go in Gate 21. I’m excited to run out with these guys and go play.
*We’re going to need a lot of guys. A year ago, we were the thinnest team in America. There’s a plan at each position to play certain guys. Being able to evolve and understand the ebbs and flows of a game and put guys in the right moment is critical for us as a staff.
Rocky Top Insider:
*Warren on Ball State: Strength in the front 7... They lost a lot of players but have a good set of players that were behind them... these guys are scholarship players.
*Warren says that Hendon Hooker has been the "general" that is leading the charge for the offense.
*Thomas says that the defensive line is "focused on being able to rush the quarterback more... That has been a big emphasis from both coach Garner and coach Banks this offseason."

*Heupel on Tillman: Last year at this point, no one in the country knew who he was... I expect him to have a big year.
*Tennessee DL Omari Thomas has a few personal goals heading into the 2022 season: - Playing as many snaps as he can - Being a leader on the defensive line - Always play hard

It is so refreshing to watch a press conference without word salads and me having to play coach buzz word bingo to keep it interesting. A coach, who has a decent command of the English language and actually knows what the h....e... double hockey sticks he is talking about. This hire was a home run on so many levels
