It has nothing to do with impressing anyone.

It's just in a weird way CMT is like an eye into the South for people who haven't traveled here. Maybe I'm just being anal about the whole thing but I just don't see the point in celebrating a word (redneck) that has a negative vibe instead of a word like "country".

Did the marketing research show that more people out there would say they are a "redneck" rather than saying they are "country"? Just seems like they are cutting off some business in using that word.

Many people simply equate redneck with stupid. Country on the other hand is viewed as a lifestyle. Granted, the folks on those shows live a redneck lifestyle, but if you say something is "country" it is deemed to be substantially better than if something is "redneck". If you ask me, everything on the Springer show is redneck. Blue Collar Comedy is country.

Anyway my rant is about CMT having shows named "My Redneck Wedding" and the "Top 20 Most Redneck Moments".

Am I the only one who thinks these shows are just an embarassment towards southern living and the reputation of the South?

i didn't have a problem with 20 most redneck moments. Most of those were good moments (at least in my book). Redneck wedding is an embarrassment. Those people are just going over the top because they're on TV. Most of the ones I have stumbled across our Southern Georgians or Northern Floridians. It's amazing how Florida gets forgotten about when it comes to rednecks because of it's beautiful beaches. Outside the coastlines though, Florida beats Tennessee all day when it comes to the stereotypical "white trash redneck".

I like to fish and hunt, have been known to chew tobacco and I like NASCAR. I've been told I have a southern drawl.

this would be redneck. nothing wrong with that as many of those i am interested in as well.

white trash is any of the following:

beats wife/kids
cooks meth
does meth
cooks meth with kids in the house
lives in Alabama
believes in incest
lives in Alabama and believes in incest

i think a lot of people don't understand the difference.
