I'm all about country living. Laid back, slow moving, slow southern drawl on the speak but I've never considered my self a redneck. I actually use the word redneck as a derogatory term against people who just have absolutley no manners whatsoever.

Anyway my rant is about CMT having shows named "My Redneck Wedding" and the "Top 20 Most Redneck Moments".

Am I the only one who thinks these shows are just an embarassment towards southern living and the reputation of the South?

I wouldn't take any thing personal from it. Those people who see it as stupid country bumpkins' will never change their opinion on the matter.

I doubt most people know how and why the word redneck originated.

I think it could hurt our recruiting. That was a joke.

To be serious...it is not a flattering term. But I don't think it is contained to the south.

I've lived in a few areas of the country and the one thing I've found is that there are rednecks everywhere! You should see some of the backwards folk that live in rural areas of the north and west!

Exactly, who would think the largest grouping of white supremecists would be in Northeast Ohio.

The people on those shows are a bit extreme and much of that we see is magnified for ratings.

agreed. I have been trapped a time or two when that wedding show was on. My wife says, "Hey check these idiots out" and there I am. It is profound that the host is as equally a bottom dweller as those being filmed. Society, my friends, is headed down the drain.

CMT is just leeching off of the popularity of the Blue Collar Comedy tour.

I've seen rednecks in Canada, Quebec to be exact. Anywhere you have small towns who's economies are based on agriculture, you're going to have a redneck population.

It is funny that you posted this, on saturday the wife and I were watching this and it is really over the top. I mean from camo decor, to a sleeveless tux, going out killing a wild hog then taking to your mothers house only to have her on camera cutting it on a rusty patio table with a "sawz all" and barefooted, then going to the creek to throw the rest of the "guts" to give back to nature. It is all a little much for me, it looked like Christmas dinner at Mason's or Avvon's Place. All taking place with a rusty doublewide as a nice backdrop.
