Clocks will no longer stop after 1st downs except during final 2 minutes of a half

Why? Other than the typical old man yelling at the sky reason, why is it stupid?
The claim is that it will improve safety. That's a lie. A breather after a first down does NOT make the game more dangerous. College rosters have 85 scholarship players. NFL rosters are limited to 53 iirc. If players playing too many plays is a "safety issue" then limit the number of plays per game a player can be in.

From a fan's perspective, we get 12 or 13 games in a typical year. This would have the effect of giving us LESS football. From a player's perspective, it is less opportunities to make plays or get playing time.

This is a PROFOUNDLY stupid thing to do unless the reason is purely commercial... which they aren't likely to admit even if true. It DOES NOT improve the game in any way, shape, or form. Want to bet that the TV run time does not get appreciably shorter? These 5 to 10 second clock stoppages which have a legitimate reason (getting the chains set) will be used to add commercial time.

Do you really want LESS football each year? Is that really YOUR old man screaming at the sky moment? "Give me less football and more commercial time".

It's just like ncaa to avoid making changes to the rules that would have stopped faking injuries to stop the clock. Something that almost everyone agrees on. Maybe they should at least give a 2 minute warning if they want to copy the pros.

It's absolute trash. It makes no sense in the NFL, and won't make sense in college. Why in the world is the clock running while the refs take their sweet time resetting the chains.

The whole reason for the clock stoppage is so that the teams aren't losing time waiting on the refs to do their job.

With our offense, does it really matter? We are running hurry up almost all the time anyway.

What? In what universe is this preferable to just running the clock after a first down? No one will notice or care about this rule change in the fall

Kind of. The games are too damn long as it is.
And you're kidding yourself if you think the runtimes will noticeably change.

The reason the runtimes are so long has literally nothing to do with brief first down clock stops and 100% to do with jackass networks execs at CBS and the like shoving ads in before every kickoff, after every kickoff, and in 90% of stoppages in play.

Then why did you ask the question? It was obviously a concern of yours by saying "Do you want LESS football??" If you're so certain that it will have no effect, why even raise the question to me?

Edit: Sorry, I realize now you weren't the one who originally asked.

There will be less football plays but the time a game takes to play will not change drastically. If that is what you Are asking. Less football plays does not mean game time will be less by a lot.
