Ever since Chris Low reported that Lane Kiffin would be the next head coach for the Vols, the haters have come out of the wood works.

Some argue his coaching record in the NFL points to a loser hire ? Fact is he was in a no win situation with Al Davis that some on here cannot comprehend. How many years has it been since the Raiders were a winning team. From 2003-2007 the Raiders won 19 games total, Gruden was the most successful coach in the past 20 yrs at Oakland and Davis fired him after he went 10-6 his last year and 12-4 the previous year. Davis is senile and runs the organization with an iron fist and has destroyed it. The Raiders will contiinue to lose until Davis steps away and allows coaches to coach.

Some say he has no southern ties or no ties to UT and is too young.... The best answers for those comments are easy, General Robert Neyland was 34 when hired, no HC experience and no ties to the south or UT. Doug Dickey was 32 when he was hired, no HC experience and is best known for the traditions of the power T on the helmets and what the band forms before each home gain. Who went on to become AD here after coaching the Gators where he played in college to success.

Some say he was not the best qualified for the position that Kelly, Davis, Leach, Patterson or Gruden and Cowher from the NFL would be better. The fact is the first 4 did not express enough interest in the job to continue to pursue. It was not that Hamilton was unable to sell it, it was the fact why hire a coach for a name when their heart would not be in it. Gruden and Cowher were unrealistic candidates and if either had agreed UT would be left with a HC with no recruiting record at the college level, a high salary and not alot of money left to bring in a quality staff.

That leads us to CLK: a proven recruiter, a pro-style offense, extensive ties in the college and NFL communiites and a hunger to redeem his coaching ability. CLK agreed to less money to pay more for his assistants that some say is because he is a weak coach, which is absurd. He wants better assistants because he is 33 yrs old and given what happened to him in the NFL, he is placing his future coaching career on the line, and wants to knock a homerun. Now I don't know about you, but to me that sounds like a man who is determined to be a winner at UT and a win win situation for us. And how anyone can say that is a bad thing is beyond me, we hired a coach who wanted the job to prove he has what it takes to get the job done, bring in the best staff at the college level and people want to sit on the couch and cry boo-hoo because we did not get one of the other candidates. Some people call fans like that either fair weather or bandwagon fans. If your one who ran your mouth to your friends who are fans of a different school about UT hiring a Cowher or Gruden and now your eating crow...get over it we have the right man for the job because he was the man who wanted it the most.

According to Hamilton yesterday on the Sports Animal he stated a lack of interest during the interviewing process eliminated them.

I for one am glad Leach had a "lack of interest". There is no way I wanted him on the sidelines calling plays off a 3x5 note card. I would have been happy with a number of choices including; Kiffin, Kelly, BD, or even a Peterson type, but I would have been much more pessimistic about next season had Leach been hired.

We have the right man for the job because he was the man who wanted it the most.

And will work the hardest to see this program succeed. He has the most on the line, the most to prove and the willingness to get it done.

Nice post, when Kiffin was mentioned I did not know much about him but the more I learn and the people he's hopefully going to bring with him the better i like him.

Whether you like the hire of Lane Kiffin or not, he is our football coach so you better support him.

I think the Kiffin complete coaching staff package was the deal maker. I think CLK can do great things at UT and wake up a sleeping giant in the SEC.

I think it was the best possible hire for a couple reasons....

1.) The most glaring reason is the possibility of this mega-staff getting assembled. A head coach is only as good as his assistants that he builds around him. If this staff comes together...it will strike fear in the rest of the SEC and send a message that UT is no longer going to accept mediocrity. I have felt the teams in the SEC begin to look at UT as a solid team, but not that big game that they have to get their kids prepared to beat. I want this program to get back to the point where people in Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, etc., start circling us on their calendars. And I believe CLK and his staff are prepared to get us there.

2.) Lane Kiffin is at a crossroads in his coaching career. A bad showing for him at UT, means he is relegated to being nothing more than a coordinator/recruiting coordinator at a big school, or a head coach at a small program. That is not in his bloodlines to be the head coach at per se a UTC or UAB, just to name a couple. With that being said...he is going to work to ensure that never happens. I believe he realizes this and therefore WILL NOT FAIL.

3.) His wife...

kiffin was probably the best guy out there, if the vols waited any longer, no telling who we would of ended up with.
