"Coach Kiffin is a real exciting dude, I like talking to him a lot," Phillips said. "I have a good impression of him. He's just really down to earth and he talks to you straight up. He's not going to beat around the bush. If you have a question for him, you're going to get an honest answer."

I know this is mostly recruiting, but I have been so impressed by how many recruits have stated the same thing that AP did above. We all know that he was unflinchingly honest with Boyd and Petty. I think its extremely refreshing that our head coach is gaining a rep as someone who tells it like it is. If I was a kid out there looking to spend four years in a program I would want a coach that doesnt sugarcoat anything. One of the questions Im going to ask is "Can I make it to the league?" because if the answer is know, my next question us "Can you get me into graduate school?" Or at the least introduce me to an alum that can give me a cushy job. Im not saying that Phil was dishonest by any stretch, but I never heard a recruit speak that way about Phil. What I heard about Phil the most was that he was a "players coach".

I'm loving the way just about all the recruits, and even some of the returning players are saying how CLK is a straight shooter....

And him being honest with recruits will most definitely pay off in the long run...

I have also been very impressed with the comments people make about CLK. Between that and the work ethic he's shown, it would be hard for me to think of a better first few weeks for him.

Your class wouldn't look to great either if you only had a couple of months to try and sign another coaches commitments and get a few more in a short time, you know.

This is not HIS recruiting class. He got started very late in the game this year. This class is a combination or CPF and staff and what CLK and staff can get....

IMO, look out for next years recruiting class! It could be awesome

Listen to what Eric Berry has/had to say about Fulmer and the recruiting process... Everytime it was asked he said Fulmer has kept every promise he made him (a chance to play early, break records, etc)....

For every Eric Berry, I'm sure there are dozens of players who didn't get what they were promised.

And if Kiffin coaches as long as Fulmer he'll have his as well. It's part of the game. Don't read too much into the "straight shooter" stuff. It's just fodder until the real action starts.

It's better to tell it now then find out the hard way. Just ask Slick Shelley, now at Tulsa, who was a highly rated WR from Arkansas who saw his chances slip away when players below him moved up the depth chart.

That was my impression after the way he handled Boyd, telling him straight up he didn't think he would fit in his offense and didn't want him to come to UT and be unhappy. Not many coaches would have done that.

Neither would many of the posters to this board...if you read the Boyd thread in Recruiting....
