Clay Travis Talks to Sankey

The way to take that is:

“We won’t force a school to not hire a candidate. What we will do is make sure that you see it our way when we share our information.”

Ergo we don’t hire someone Sankey doesn’t approve of. It’s the inverse of a non-denial denial. (If you’ve seen All The President’s Men).

Sankey works for the schools, not vice versa. At the end of the day the college presidents run the show.

Doesn't matter. What's Sankey going to do if he presents info and UT hires Freeze anyway? Nada--that's what he said, each school makes their own personnel hires. And if Freeze came in and won big, Sankey will just sit back, collect the checks, and continue to kiss Saban's ass.

All that being said, it doesn't really matter. We'll probably hire the OC from The Citadel.
He let Auburn hire Bruce Pearl.

My thing about Freeze is that he was successful at Ole Miss with an open check book. If we were to hire him he would have to succeed with total scrutiny. Not sure he would be the same coach here? You know that Saban would have agents spying on Knoxville.

the only thing that doesn't make me write Freeze off is when the chancellor said they want to win. The other stuff they said was just fluff they had to say

This is the Clay Travis interview with Greg Sankey about whose decision it is when it come to hiring a coach. They have posted the link on this page so you can go look it up. I am going to put the interview on here for discussion.

"When asked about Hugh Freeze"
“Well, I give Hugh credit for his work at Liberty. It was fun to watch their bowl game and seeing him with his family at the end of the game, with a smile on his face,” Sankey told Travis. “Good for him and how he’s turned the page.”
Sankey was then asked about Freeze potentially being hired by an SEC school.“Our schools make their own hiring decisions,” Sankey told Travis. “I think we’ve been clear that the conference membership established that each school is responsible, for a head coach position or assistant coach position, to fully evaluate the background of the (candidates). They do that through our office. We share information that is publicly available. Then they make decisions.”

“I won’t speak to any one individual,” Sankey said.
He then added, “I get blamed for a lot. So I’ll take the blame. We expect our universities, and they expect each other, to be responsible in their personnel decisions. … Ultimately, our campuses make those decisions.”
Okay now from the way I take this is if we wanted to hire Freeze it would be our decision, They would provide info like it says but in the end it would be our decision. So there you have it if we want him and we are will live with the scrutiny we can have him. I am all in I want him now.

I read that as the Commish saying he won’t get in any school’s way of tripping over its own d***.

No. Reverend. Blindside.

He let Auburn hire Bruce .

Very true, but Pearl was sacked when he lied about giving a hamburger at a team cookout. Our situation now is a coach that lied about cash in sacks at the burger take out. 8-(

Based on the interview I read this morning, Randy Boyd's comment about coaches with prior NCAA run-ins would indicate Freeze is not an option.

With all that has come out this week, and yet to be revealed in the future, a Freeze hire would be no worse than the Pruitt hire.

I do believe Freeze is a capable candidate. At this point, what do they really have to lose?

Oh why not... I'll post it again here for you all that think Hugh Freeze is on some ncaa death list. Tldr: he completely isn't. His staff was found to be committing violations and the ncaa found him to have been unaware (whether true or not, that's how they see it). I believe he got his "massive" one year show cause for lack of institutional control.

NCAA committee chief explains why Hugh Freeze only got a one-year penalty
