Clay Travis predicts Tennessee 45 Florida 10

This is crazy! Here we go again! We are running our mouths about the Florida game again but will end up embarrassed because we will lose by 1 or 2 points.
This will further add to our frustrations.

Let's keep this in perspective! In 1998, we had one of our best teams ever at U.T. We played Florida at Neyland and we had a strong defense. It took all that we had and even an overtime to win the game. Not only that, we didn't win the game by our play, but we won the game because Florida's kicker made a mistake.

If we had to struggle until the very end just to get a win at home, with one of the best teams U.T. has ever had, then how can we expect to beat them in a regular game?

Google the words logic and reasoning. Then study those definitions.

Well if we're gonna go back, we did beat Florida by two touchdowns in '03 at the swamp. We also hold the biggest differential in a beatdown for this rivalry, which is 45-3 in '90. We've done it before, we can do it again.

Two things come to mind:

1) Most people forget Clay is a Tennessee fan. I actually quite enjoy reading/listening to him unlike most people. He is entertaining and a fun read. Most analysts are a bore. But, I will say he is a little off his rocker with this and predicting a 35 point beatdown. He might have put some Orange shades on. I think we have the potential to beat them comfortably, but 35 points is asking an awful lot in a series we have lost 11 straight games in.

2) Just to play Devil's Advocate, I think the A&M game does have one positive going for it in regards to where it lies on the schedule. It's deep enough into the season that by the time we have to play them we will know truly who they are and what their actual capabilities are.

Remember when Kenny Trill just a few years ago looked like a Heisman front runner and A&M looked destined to compete for the West after that 3-0 start? Well, they completely imploded on themselves and were exposed for frauds. Since we don't have to play them till mid-season, there will be plenty of tape on them to go off of since right now they are a completely unknown quantity. And, it gives other teams time to demoralize and beat them down. Cause as we have seen in the past few years, they have not done well with adversity. When they get beat Sumlin's teams have started to fold early in the season.

I would predict UT to beat Fla. 24-10, but the curse prevents me from making that prediction.

For CBJ's sake he needs to beat Florida. Another loss to the Gators (at home) could spell a decline in the confidence and fan support for Butch and staff.

This team is better than the 98 team and the Gators are way worse.

That is truly the worst reasoning I've heard someone make in trying to predict the result of this years game.

You would be better off just saying Florida has good athletes and a great defense so it's unlikely we blow them out.

Digging up a game from 18 years ago to prove anything about what will happen this year is moronic.

So digging up a team in comparison is different?

Way worse? Where's your evidence that Florida is going to be "Way worse" in 2016 over where they were in 2015. I want to see this.

Take your time. I'll leave my light on for you.
<----

I will give him a chance to refute this but I will cut him some slack that he was comparing UF 16' to UF 98' with the idea that UT is better than their 98' version (which is a leap at best right now) and UF is not as good as their 98' team which would be the more believable of the 2.

But I have been wrong before.

I think he's off his rocker thinking TAM is going to win.

But I do like the Florida score.

I am reminded of the 10/13/90 game. First year HC, Steve Orr Spurrier brings his undefeated, 5-0 Florida team to Neyland Stadium, where they are crushed by the then 3-0-2 Volunteers, 45 - 3.

I confess that I not only hope for a Vols victory, but pray for one so overwhelming as to leave the Gators emotionally scarred. If not shut out, may UF score no more than a field goal. Let them turn the ball over at every chance they have to score. Let each of those turnovers result in a Tennessee score. Let the UF defense spend so much time on the field that they are impotent with fatigue in the 4th quarter, and even though the Vols are running the ball exclusively, Tennessee still scores on every possession. Let the demolition of Florida be so dramatic, that it is the lead sports story everywhere throughout the following week. Hear me, Lord. Amen.

Well, he is a Vandy alum...

He's a TN fan. People give him a hard time, but Clay is definitely a fan. I don't blame him for being hard on Dooley during the years he was here. And Clay has actually defended the university through the farce that was the Peyton Manning "scandal" and the Title IX lawsuit.

Young squires... Young squires...

Do not mistakes hopes for prescriptions, desires for foretelling. Every true Tennessee alumnus and fan yearns for a victory over Florida, and given umbrage by their conceit, we pray for the Vols to deliver a psychologically scarring comeuppance to the Gators. This is natural for the Big Orange Faithful, some might argue even righteous.

This yearning for victory is not contrary to our true character. It does not negate our innate humility, good nature, and generous spirit. After the Volunteers utterly embarrass the Gators on the gridiron by forcing fumbles, intercepting passes, stopping their increasingly desperate 4th down attempts, and scoring on them at will, would we not help their fans change a tire? Buy them a drink? Give them directions? A ride to the airport? Help them with their luggage? Yes, we would, and we will.

Be at peace. Accept the yearning for victory as the yin to our yang. Stay balanced, and cheer on the Vols!

Yes. I was attempting to assuage the angst with humor.
