Dave Clawson was in over his head and the offensive players NEVER gave him any respect. they never bought into the CLAWFENSE. It seems like clawson tried to prove himself to the offense and it never worked. he was so busy trying to gain acceptance that there was no attention to detail, no discipline, and no emphasis put on execution. its like he let the players do what they want because he was not a proven commodity. he had no track record to speak of, and the players never bought into his high school offense. clawson was so stuck on impressing everybody that the coaching suffered cuz HE NEVER HAD THE RESPECT OF HIS OFFENSE. The year went bad the day that clawson was named offensive coordinator. Tennesse better hire someone known for discipline and attention to detail.... otherwise the players will walk all over him.

on the other hand with chavis, the players respect him, he is a proven coach and command the kind of effort that we see out of the D. this team is the right coach away from being back to where were supposed to be.

I thought we knew that already...I think the UCLA game gave away the fact that he's not very good.

Clawson is gone too, we just have to suffer through two more games w/ him. The new coach would be a moron to keep this guy on after such a pitiful offensive season.

Aw, man.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Paul Pierce taking over as UT's next coach.

We can argue the reasons why but there is no doubt that this is the suckiest offense that ever sucked.

So...are you saying he wasn't respected?

thats exactly what im saying. its hard to give your all for somebody that you dont like, let alone you dont even believe in his system. if we get a known offensive coordinator that is respected enough to demand accountability, u will see this offense shine.

I was actually just joking...you said it like 3 or 4 times in your post...thought it was funny...

And Cicero, when were you in the locker room to ascertain this?

u got to read between the lines. the offense never saw him as somebody to be respected. he had no reputation and no major accomplishments. he may prove to be a good coach someday, but he was not ready for this job and the players knew it. they took advantage and ran this offense and this season down the drain.

I will say that I feared for this team's life this season after seeing the size of his eyes in the box at UCLA...there are two kinds of wide-eyes...and those were not the good kind.

I don't buy this. 18-19yo's don't typically look at things this way.

This is you opinion. Mine is different.

defense is not good as advertised. they have been on a short field all season long which leads to touchdown drives of 35 yards or less. it has been bend but dont break all year. still can not get off the field on 3rd down, still getting very lil pressure on qb, and when we do, we give up contain and they still get positive yards. we are a good defense, not dominant or great by any stretch. the sec is terrible on offense this year and we have been fortunate to play very weak offenses this year. we even caught florida before they found their rythym

first off, this defense is not that good, its largely been smoke and mirrors this whole season. how many times did wyoming convert a 3rd and long on saturday?? how many times did we make number 5 look like an all american running back?? i think we got zero sacks against an offensive line that couldnt start at some highschools. im just getting tired of everybody thinking this is a dominant defense. it is good, but by no means dominant…….

i have said it, defense is not as good as advertised but THEY HAVE GIVEN THE EFFORT ALL YEAR LONG. they have been prepared and they have executed the gameplan. they have not taken plays off and have not beat themselves. chavis is respected enough to at least get the effort out of his guys.

The offense has not been prepared to play all year long and there are few players on that side of the ball giving maximum effort.

Our defense has been solid this year and would be dominant but for the offensive woes. As one of many examples, UGA's time of possession against us was 42:04. 42:04!!!! No defense can be on the field that long and not get gassed.

In fairness you may want to add Jon Crompton, Phil Fulmer (without Cut), and half the receiving corps to the list of people in over their heads before this mess started.

So, the inability to stop our opponents on third and short is the offenses fault?

Perhaps, in place of the skepticism they should have asked themselves WTF have I ever done on a football field that ever amounted to anything?

I still can't figure out why this guy was hired in the first place.

I still can't figure out why this guy was hired in the first place.

He was hired because people kept clamoring for someone "outside the family". He was hired because his offense was different than the same 3 yards and a cloud of dust that UT has always loved. Everyone that is now saying we should have kept Trooper Taylor was then saying that Fulmer should bring in a new perspective. But, FWIW, I think Taylor would have been worse.

I don't think anyone would have been a good fit for OC this year. Fulmer would have held him back just like he has done w/ Clawson. Just like he did with Sanders in 05.

I will also say that in no way shape or form have we seen Clawson's offense this season. I know because I have seen the Clawson coached Richmond team.

To put it simply we don't have the o-line, quarterback, or receivers in place to make it work.
