Continuing with the discussion of the uber-conservative disinformation campaign -- really more of information manipulation and distortion -- I see a classic example today on Drudge.

On the top of the Drudge page is a couple of links to stories about Obama's plane having to land today unscheduled due to a precaution. In red, is this headline tag: "Federal Investigation Launched into Obama's MD-80 ..."

Now, anyone looking at that tag alone would think it means that someone is claiming or at least worried that this was some intentional act, the implication being that this is some massive over-reaction. I mean, its in red and everything, right?

Well, when you actually read the story, it says that the National Transportation Safety Board is looking into it because some safety device apparently slipped in the tail section causing the problem. Duh. Of course the NTSB is going to look into that!

This effort to twist news to make it seem like Obama is weak or a Nervous Nellie or whiny is typical of the Drudge and Fox News distortion machine-- and its so pathetic.

You seriously do not think that Drudge was trying to imply that this was a criminal type of investigation? Its the NTSB saying they are going to look into this, just like they would any similar situation. But he puts it in red, like its some sort of major event and that "the Feds" are going to investigate it.

Take a look at the first comment below the news story. Guy goes on and on about how poor Obama had his toast burned because of the unplanned landing and now we are going to spend tax dollars to check on it.

If you can't see how this is intentionaly being distorted and protrayed as some sort of overreaction by Obama's campaign to a nominal event, then I don't know what to tell you.

or some uber conservative conspiracy?

really, LG, your fear of republicans is becoming almost Kos-like.

Drudge probably had it in red to reflect the seriousness of the situation. A Presidential candidate's plane having mechanical problems and making what amounts to an emergency, unscheduled landing is news.

The Feds are going to investigate, they would no matter if the plane was empty or it carried somebody really important like the Dalai Lhama and Queen Elizabeth.

edit:

look at some of the other headlines Drudge has in red:

a human interest story about an Iraq War vet, made famous by a picture of him carrying an Iraqi child, died here in the US.

another is a banner headline about Iraq possibly setting a timetable for a US departure.

another is about California possibly mandating all cars carry a carbon impact sticker.

gee, that Drudge is certainly an idealogue.

LG,
Why do you read Drudge if it upsets you so? Seems like you are looking for things to try to prove to every one that one side is going to try to promote their own aggenda. We all agree already.

uhh....the NTSB does not investigate every precautionary landing. They are reacting precisely because the plane held a presidential candidate and for no other reason. That doesn't mean that it was overhyped by anyone.

I think you've lost your freaking mind LG. Clearly there are sites and news stories with a heavy right slant, but this one just doesn't fit your bill.

LG, it used to be funny, now it seems like you're reaching to the point of it being absurd. I could fill several pages of absurd headlines from the NY Times alone, yet you say nothing about that. It's ok if you're a lib, no one is going to judge you any worse than they already do on here. :hi:

Not exactly swift boat material there LG. I see anti repub headlines everyday that have agendas embedded in them, but this one not so much.

Shocker, a right-leaning web site puts a right-leaning spin on things. What about the endless left-wing sites that put a grossly misleading and negative spin on any and all things related to McCain and/or republicans? Those don't seem to bother you so much, LG. It seems pretty obvious that you're just agitated that the conservative outlets (Drudge, Fox News, etc.) are now employing (with great success) the very same tactics that left-wingers have been using forever. Your 'outrage' is hypocritical, if you ask me.

The Dredge Report is a bad as Moveon.org. I stay away from both.

The Drudge Report is a news outlet with a strong conservative slant. Moveon.org is a news outlet with a strong liberal slant that throws money at elections and tries with everything in their power to effect politics. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

moveon isn't even a news outlet, they are a Soros funded left wing attack machine masquerading as journalism.

Correct IMO but leftists would try to say Drudge isn't a news outlet so for the sake of argument I tried to make my point on the most solid and irrefutable grounds.

Both the right and the left have their mouthpieces and both annoy me because they manipulate and distort objective fact so as to persuade. You don't see me on here defending moveon, do you?

Maybe the reason it is so frustrating to see the right do it is that, frankly, they are better at it in the sense that they package their crap better than does the left. Why the left can't get some hot girls on cool-looking sets, with neat graphics, to read this stuff and pretend they are informing (like Fox does on the right) is beyond me.
