Clarence Massamba signs with Tennessee

Barnes is killing it. European pro, SEC ready.
Not sure about that. From the video, I question the caliber/level of competition. Not saying he's not athletic or that he can't shoot, but how well does it transition to the SEC? Hope he's Knecht-lite, but that remains to be seen.

He's not going to come in, Knecht-like, but give him 2 or 3 years. Of course, if he stays, but foreign players seem to not transfer as much. NIL thing, I think

I'm hoping Massamba is much better early on than we think he is. As it stands now he seems like a bottom of the rotation guy

Probably reasonable to think he could follow the Santi production timeline. Coach has not fired many international blanks.

His adjustment to the SEC's physical defense will be something important to monitor. If he's the offensive gem we think, he'll adapt. He probably won't be a guy that gets doubled much so I'm thinking Barnes knows this guy can contribute

Him and Amaree Abram will be fighting over who the 3rd starting guard is and who is the 6th man. Both should get significant playing time either way.

Yve Pons took a long time to get in the swing of things. Maybe a better comparison?

Santi was our only option at point guard when he arrived. So he had to play, good or bad. I would say mainly good, but that year was the worst team we’ve had under Barnes.

Not the worst team, but certainly one of them. That team was 17-14 and on the wrong side of the bubble when Covid shut the world down. Barnes's first two teams were 15-19 and 16-16, respectively. His only Tennessee teams to miss the NCAAT.

Santi stood in at point that year, but the role he played for the balance is much closer to CM than the Pons role for comparison sake. Don’t see him in a power role.
