CJP Post Missouri Presser

I realize that, but I thought this was a requirement to be hired as a staffer who works with students, period.

I’m basing this on a REALLY rusty memory from 5? 7? years ago when we had some sort of baseball coach doo-day going on. Serrano? I’ve slept since then.

I was thinking there was some sort of issue/ problem that he didn’t have a degree, or not an adequately foo-foo degree.

As I said, I’ve slept since then, and I was curious.
If the coach has to have at least one level higher than the degree than the athletes he is coaching, CJP would need a doctorate. There are at least two graduate transfers on the team working on their masters. I think the Serrano thing was simply lying on his resume. Again, I could be wrong; not that it would be the first or last time. :)

I know that if Pruitt wins it'll be tougher to nit pick the guy but...I hate how he doesn't use proper English. Dude is supposed to be a leader of a bunch of college kids and he is like..."they done good"..."we just wasn't ready"...dude really? He has to know that's not the right way to say it. Why almost go out of your way to sound dumb in an interview. And before you just totally dismiss this, name a big time success coach that talks like that. And go...

Lol so now it is a gig on him for being super southern... good lord I wish all of you haters would shut up already.

If we were 7 - 4 right now no one would give a crap about how he talks.

You know, the only limited success anyone's ever had against Saban has been by going up tempo (or spread, mobile QB or combination there of). I wonder if the struggle is related to the defensive philosophy he learned under Saban? Or maybe we're just bad
Freebies at the cat house worked pretty good for ole miss

It's so funny how people come on these threads not to comment on the op but rather to try to criticize various comments. Lol. It's just kinda what people do.
It's not hard to understand. I didn't criticize him for being southern. I criticized him for talking like he doesn't know how to speak English. For him to say things like "they done good"...isn't southern. It's almost intentionally trying to sound dumb. Surly he knows that's not the way to say it. He's college education for Christ sake. Being at least reasonable intelligent is kinda important to being a successful coach. Look at the guys succeeding. Saban, Lincoln Riley, Jim harbaugh, urban Meyer...none of those guy get up there and say we done good, they ain't good...I don't know why he thinks it's a good look for him to act like he never went to school (any school at any level).

Do you make $4,000,000 or more a year? He must be doing something right in his life.

Is he supposed to just change how he has been his entire life because you don’t like the way he speaks? Nope.

GTFOH.

I try to stay away from these kind of threads and debates. But the undertone of this one kind of bothers me. The presupposition that because someone doesn't hold a certain academic degree or isn't articulate in his speech is somehow a sign of lower intelligence is just false. I think history shows us examples of that with people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Earnest Hemmingway, etc, etc. Even Larry Bird was known as a "dumb country boy". I don't have a problem with judging Pruitt's coaching ability. But no need to attach his character. I realize that being the coach puts him under the microscope. I realized that he represents the university. But a lot of fans have done this with our past coaches, and it irks me. I personally don't care how he speaks, if he smiles during the Sunday show, if he wears the UT moo moo, whatever. As long as he coaches up our team and gets us back to where we all want the program to be.

I will now step off my soap box. Sorry.

boy you're just a little ray of sunshine aren't you. Lol. For the guy that's basically the spokesman of the university to get up in front of the media and talk like an uneducated idiot? We all make fun of some bama fans for the way they talk. Well...looks like we hired one. And for the record...why don't you gtfoh? I was here first!

Dude...how on gods green earth could you compare they way he talks to bill gates or Steve jobs? Omg. Can you imagine gates getting up in front of the board at Microsoft and saying "we done made some new software". Or jobs saying we wuz trying but just ain't got enough sales? My point is that he intentionally chooses to speak that way. Kinda like when a black dude tries to talk really ghetto. Pruitt knows that's not proper English. He's got a college education and used to be a teacher. He wouldn't have received his degree without using proper grammar. He chooses to act that way. So I'm criticizing the way he chooses to speak. Not his iq. And for the record...butch jones had thread after thread on here making fun of his level of intelligence. And even after all the dumb things he said in press conferences butch would appear to be more intelligent to the casual observers based on the way Pruitt chooses to talk.

8-3 maybe (maybe). Actually I think I would still care because I think part of it is affected to appeal to the fanbase. That condescension is insulting, because being "super Southern" and having a poor grasp of one's native tongue is a stereotype no one from this region needs. Otherwise he's just being lazy, and I don't like that either. You're right about his making 4mil a year, though. Great country, ain't it?

I think I had maybe one comp class in college. So from my personal experience, I would disagree that a college degree is dependent on grammar. And I would say that not every teacher in high school is an English teacher. The reference to several threads about people making fun of Butch's intelligence only gives credit to my argument about attacking a coach's character. I have seen Pruitt at the different schools and his speech didn't change when he became coach here. So if he is choosing to talk the way he does maliciously, then I'm not aware of it. I'm not sure how that would benefit him, anyway.

Not sure what more ghetto means. I played ball with plenty of black and white players, and everywhere in between. The vernacular wasn't necessarily dependent on skin color. If what you pulled away from my post was comparing Pruitt to Bill Gates, then you missed my point entirely. I was referring to the overall theme of the thread. I wasn't referring to anyone's post in particular.
