Civil Unrest in France

The French are screwing themselves, you are correct this isn't a right wing or a nationalist movement. This is a far left wing protest over being taxed. I haven't heard or seen any reports of the protesters willing to give up any of their socialist welfare, they just don't want to pay for it anymore. Macron capitulating to this just speeds the ruin of the country.

le pays ira bien

I do think globalism vs nationalism is a big part of it. But yeah I agree they want to pay less taxes while maintaining their current levels of socialism. That won’t work.

He is a ****ing idiot. He would do what gets him and his trash family more money. This is the Obama economy we are riding.

Lol. Omg! Your love for Barry and hatred of Trump prevent you from being rational. Obama would’ve raised taxes to give more welfare. He’s the half black american Macron.

They love their welfare until they get tired of paying for it. So ironic.

No it’s not. It’s both sides...fighting a globalist president. This started out as a revolt against the diesel tax...designed to persuade people to switch to more eco friendly vehicles. Most globalized cities have an overflow of immigrants who don’t drive, yet ride the bus and walk. On the flip side of that...immigration is pushing the working Frenchman farther and farther out away from employment hubs. The increase in fuel prices is hitting them hard, unlike the metro-transit riding city dwellers...

They aren't fighting globalism.

Yes they are...just as the people of Britain(Brexit) are...

The conception of the EU and it’s policies are/is a globalist agenda...forced immigration is by design...to divide and weaken. An attack on nationalism, culture and religion..

They are fighting to maintain their socialist ways without having to pay for it. Sure they are upset with the immigration policies but don't be fooled, this isn't a right wing movement. They will vote for the next guy that promises to keep borrowing to pay for their stuff as long as he promises to do something about immigration.

I’d guess that’s a pretty accurate description of French Nationalism. Not so much for American Nationalism but sadly not too far off base with regard to increased spending. Real conservativism is dead.

I know you want this to be a lefty protest...

80% of French support the yellow vests protest...while Macron’s approvement rating is at 23%...

That’s hardly a leftist movement...

France is the definition of socialism. That’s a leftist stance. The people of France embrace socialism. So yeah I’d call it a leftist protest, especially when you look at the socialist mindset demand list? Just sayin’.

Imagine the economy boost if we implemented tax free overtime and tax free bonuses. The only tax free bonus we have have now is the free loaders rapid refunding every February.

I made a similar statement earlier zep. They don’t want “Trump” they want a nationalist instead of a globalist. France first like what Trump says America first. A nationalist in France will have different policy stances than a nationalist in America.
Nevertheless it seems what the Yellow Vests want, when you boil it down, is more government/handouts not less.

There is an element of "we're losing our culture" among the French, but a good proxy for how widespread that belief is the runoff election last year between Macron and LePen. She got 34% of the vote.

I see the yellow vests movement as primarily being against a high tax that is excessive and regressive, with immigration being a side or tacked-on issue in addition to the original reason for the protest. I don't see it as being anti-immigration for cultural preservation or xenophobic reasons. It seems to be anti-immigration insofar as they want the welfare state to be for them only. It certainly isn't anti-welfare state; they just seem to be frustrated at how the welfare state is currently working and set up.

What's funny is that the fuel tax was slapped on by leftist, socialist interests that predominately live in urban areas and make heavy use of public transportation. Wanted to do it for the environment. The tax falls much more on working class people living in the suburbs and rural areas, who rely more on their own personal vehicles to commute, and who these socialists supposedly have in their best interest.

It's on now Macron. You better give the police their guns back because it looks like Nolan Ryan has some French relatives in that video.

yeah, no kidding, not a lot of arc on some of those babies. Wonder if any of them can throw a football?

Even if they want to argue that it isn't a globalist revolt, at the very least, it is a nationalist and populist revolt.

When have the French police fired live ammo and killed dozens and dozens of yellow vests?
You know it has been shown that those were actually Georgian snipers firing on the Maidan crowds, not Yanukovich's people, right?

In you analogy, it would have been US or British mercenaries firing on the French crowds...

Macron concessions to cost between 8-10 billion euros - minister | Reuters

PARIS (Reuters) - Measures announced by President Emmanuel Macron to appease a wave of protests across France will cost between 8-10 billion euros ($9.1-$11.4 billion), a junior minister said on Monday.

“It’s between 8 to billion euros,” Olivier Dussopt, junior minister for public accounts, said on BFM TV. “We are in the process of fine-tuning and to see how to finance it.”

Macron announced earlier on Monday wage rises for the poorest workers and tax cuts for pensioners in further concessions meant to defuse weeks of often violent protests that have challenged his authority.
