alright, here's the deal.

i had a cannon powershot that was about three years old, it was a great camera but it got stolen out of my girlfriends car (along with her ipod and purse) about a week ago.

i'm not looking to spend over 350 but i need to find her a good camera. she enjoys taking pictures of everything that you could imagine and she ends up framing about 90% of them.

if anyone knows of a decent camera for a good price let me know. i'm not too educated on cameras so i really dont know what she needs. any help is appreciated. thanks.

I have a Nikon Coolpix. It's a good little camera for the price. Around $120.

Unless you're blowing pics up, you don't need 10mp.

I personally have a Nikon S50, but Canons and higher-end Sony are definitley the best compacts out there. That's inclusive of sensor quality and shutter speed.

The Canon SD850IS and Sony DSC-T70 are both very good compacts in your price range.

You can get a much, much, much better camera if you've got a budget of $350. IMO there are no "decent" cameras at $120. You can get actual decent sensors, and features like:

- Image stabilization (eliminates the blur most of the time)
- High ISO/Shutter speed (takes much, much faster pictures)
- Higher megapixel ratings (duh)
- Face detection (very good for taking pics of people)
- Lithium ion battery pack (longer life and more conveniece than AA)

$120 will get you your garden-variety run of the mill AA-powered camera.

S51 = exactly the same as the camera I have, but with face detection.

You do know that next friday is black friday, right?

Image stabilization is a MUST.
+ 1 million

My Nikon S50:

- Optical image stabilization
- Nikor lens
- 3" LCD screen
- 1600 ISO

Pretty good stuff. Like I said, S51 is exactly the same, just with face detection. I just use it for basic pics. The camera enthusiast in me would take a Canon eleven times out of ten over a Nikon, but for the average joe, either would be great.
