Chris Peterson

I'm not anti-Kelly as I believe he can coach. There IS good football outside of the SEC and he is winning legit games at a school that historically is a steaming pile. That being said, I like Peterson more because I think he's a better guy all around and has a better demeanor w/ his players. I think Kelly is that guy whose hardass schtick might get old pretty quick w/ bigger recruits. Peterson's players truly appear excited to play for him and he has NO FEAR as a playcaller.

Another example of comparing Chris Petersen to Urban Meyer because they both came from a non BCS school out west. Meyer was in the MWC. Petersen is in the WAC. Their career's couldn't be more different.

Urban Meyer- 6 years WR coach Colorado St, 5 years WR coach Notre Dame, 2 years HC Bowling Green, 2 years HC Utah, (39-8 record)first mid-major team to play/win BCS game, named 2004 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

Chris Petersen- 6 Years WR coach Oregon, 5 years OC Boise St, 3rd year HC Boise St (33-3 record) second mid-major to play/win BCS game, named 2006 Paul "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year.

Yeah, no similarities whatsoever.

You just figured it out. Remember this it is his achilles heal and already causing him a problem in the Big East.

I hated how he hounded the refs all night long after seemingly every play last week. If he comes to UT I'll support the heck out of him, but he needs to tone it down.

Urban Meyer resurrected Bowling Green, Utah, & Florida.

Bowling Green had six consecutive losing seasons before Urban Meyer was hired. He instantly had two winning seasons in two years there.

Utah was coming off a losing season when Meyer was hired there. Meyer went 22-2, one undefeated season, & a BCS bowl win in two years.

Florida was coming off three straight five loss seasons. In two years, Meyer wins the SEC, & National Championship.

Point out, as a head coach, what Petersen has done that compares to that?

Perhaps, w/ the right opportunity, he is on the same path.

And, by the way, what more does Chris Peterson have to do to be ready for the big time?????

Perhaps, but at the moment, people continuously compare Petersen to Meyer. Two different career paths.

Urban Meyer consistently turned around losing teams as head coach. Chris Petersen has been with one team as head coach, & that team wasn't in dire shape when he was promoted to head coach. Yes, he was the offensive coordinator for Boise State, but Dan Hawkins alongside Dirk Koetter wasn't doing too bad before Petersen landed there. 20-5 in the final two seasons for Koetter.

Meyer's 'career path' in the 15 years from Colorado St-Utah is remarkably similar to Petersen's 'career path' in the 14 years from Oregon-Boise St. So much so in fact, that I challenge you to find 2 CFB HC with a more similar 'career path'.

The major difference (the difference that got Urban hired at Florida) is that he turned around Bowling Green and Utah. Petersen kept Boise's momentum going when he assumed leadership.

Six consecutive seasons, with the last one being 2-9. That's what Urban walked into at Bowling Green.

I wish the folks who think Peterson can compete with Saban, Meyer, Richt, etc because he can beat up on the WAC knew how truly delusional they are. Hire this guy... sign the program's death warrant for the foreseeable future.

I'm not saying they are identical twins...I'm saying they are fraternal twins. :p

Petersen inherited a team with a .828 win pct over the previous 5 years and improved them to a team with a .917 win pct, went undefeated, won a BCS game with a non-BCS team, finished in the Top 5, won Coach of the Year honors and might just repeat a few of those accomplishments this year.

What precisely does he have to do to prove he is a good football coach in your mind?

And let me re-state for the umpteenth time, I don't think Petersen is the right guy for the Tenn job.

Regardless if he is the right guy or not, he won't get the job. He probably won't even get the call from the search firm.
