As White indicated in his press conference, he's just now starting to gather information on possible coaches while talking to all his sources, having a team meeting, and more. So I'm guessing any 'near term' guesses on coaches is just that. Guesses.

No way he hasn't already narrowed his choices. That was AD Speak.

I know there's a rule against politics on this board, but hopefully the mods won't nuke this. One thing to consider is the political climate in Washington/Seattle. Also the tax situation. It might be that Peterson is ready to get out of that climate and relocate his family. If so and we can pull this one off, it would be a nuclear hire. I can't imagine what it would mean for our program. He's only 56 so seeing him here for the next 10 years would certainly be doable. Just can't let myself believe a hire like this for our program. Too good to be true.

Yeah,
If White could land Petersen, it would freak out all the SEC schools.

What’s the infatuation with Petersen? Solid coach but he is NOT the god everyone on here makes him out to be. Would be a solid hire but I’ll never understand the fawning and drooling over a Mtn West / Pac12 coach.
Seriously? In the twenty years before he took over at Washington, they had at won least 10 games in a season just once. He had them in the playoffs in his third season and won 32 games from 2016-2018. That’s the most wins in a three-year stretch in program history.

You could not make a better (solid, proven) hire than Petersen.

On December 2, 2019 Petersen announced he would step down as Washington's head coach at the end of the season due to stress and assume a leadership advisory role with the athletics program.

What?! And y’all think he can come here?!?! Knoxville is STRESS CITY!! Seriously, Washington is no comparison to the stress/pressure he’d experience at Tennessee/SEC.

I'm hearing this is a possibility. I'm inclined to like this possibility. What say others?

I wanted him when they fired Fulmer.
I wanted him when Kiffin left under mattress smoke.
I wanted him when Dooley took a shower and made no sense about WW2.
I wanted him after Butch left screaming, "Individuals"
Now that Pruitt leaves under the golden arches? He has been retired for a bit.
But if we can finally get around to going after him THIS time?

Oh, Hell YES!!!!

Here is the thing. A bunch of his stress was because Washington got no love from the committee even when they were playing well enough to be considered. If he came in, built a dominate program at Tennessee? There might be a chance in his eyes. When you talk about his stress, you gotta address the cause there.

Now that Tennessee is hopefully getting it's house in order? No, it won't be easy here. But where is it easy? Here, he might make it possible.

I won't Chris Peterson! For get lame kitten or "thristy thirsty" freeze bring integrity back to UT please. Even though it's very unlikely we have a chance to hire Chris Peterson I'm glad a AD has been hired who doesn't care about our opinion on the next HC he will hire who he feels is best suited for the job. Time to get rid of the pushovers at the University of Tennessee
