Absolutely right. And I don't like schools being pressured to pay someone based on another school's interest and not performance. You only bump an elite coach significantly if someone is chasing them, and Pearl has not yet proven to be an elite coach.

Agreed on both points. I think it may come down to ensuring that there's no way in hell Anthony Grant makes more money than Pearl. It'll be interesting to see if Hamilton can and will justify a big raise for Pearl (and his assistants) after his worst season at UT.

I don't understand the upgrade in facilities part at all.

The assistant coach pay is subjective.

well after watching this season the asst. coaches shldn't get one. if they can't coach defense, offense, or fundamentals then what good are they for

If the University of Tennessee is serious about big time men's basketball, they will pay Pearl $3-4 million a year. He is worthy of that type of money and should be paid it. he is one of the best coaches in the country and should be compensated as so.

I'm a big Bruce Pearl fan, but 3-4 million is getting ridiculous.

If Mike Hamilton gives Pearl 3 mill he should be fired on the spot.

3-4 mil is making me sick to my stomach. 2.5 is reasonable for now. i wouldn't mind seeing him get his bump for the assistants if he'd go out and get some quality ones. can't be like pf and let blind loyalty leave you with a subpar staff.

+1. If it comes down to Pearl telling Hamilton, "$3 million or I'm heading for Memphis," hope the door doesn't hit him on the way out. Meanwhile, we'll hire Sean Miller for $2 million.

frankly have to stop kowtowing to the coaches and their salary demands. It's absurd. If Pearl wants to coach Memphis, I say let him go. Hire somebody else and move on. I'd like for him to stay--but college sports in America is so friggin' out of whack it's scary. Here's another thing: Athletic directors need to stop giving contract extensions and pay raises every friggin year just because the football coach wins 7/8 games, or the basketball coach wins 15. The pay escalation has to stop. There are a lot of good basketball coaches in America.

just to prove a point, pay him $2,000,001. so that he's higher paid than grant. there ya go, bruce, now you're paid higher!
