What matters is that would not have happened if he would have had to play a team with a Defense! The final score was 41-38. Have you ever seen a NC game against an SEC school that let an opponent hang 41 points on them?

The most I saw was 24 last year and that was at the end of the game with the third string in!

And from what I have seen from Vince with a little pressure he folds like a lawn chair!

The 1998 Orange Bowl comes to mind.

It appears you're doing a great job convincing us that VY was not a good college qb. Keep up the good work.

Go back and check how many first round draft picks that defense had. I can think of at least 2 in last year's draft. Keith Rivers and Sendrick Ellis on of their DT's went in the first 10 picks I'm sure of it.

Every team has players that go pro! Hell courtland Finnegan went to Samford that does not mean they are a good defensive team?? He is a great player though.

And they had 2 guys!! the ones you named! U think that makes a defense??

I am not trying to convince you that Vince Young was not a good college QB. All I said is that I dont think he would have been that good in the SEC. And I mentioned that there are not to many running style QB's in the SEC or in the Pros. So maybe for these other cupcake divisions it works and they look great.....but not against the SEC they dont! And I mentioned the related story of Troy Smith who was also suppossed to be the best QB ever and what happened to him against the SEC?? Just stating the obvious! Until you play the toughest teams you dont know if your the best!

I know what you said. You may want to go back and google the 1997 season and the bowl alliance for a refresher.

Then why answer with Orange Bowl when I said NC.... And I am sure 12 years ago and further back the SEC lost some bowl games....

I've been a UT fan since 2001. Look, other than Tee Martin, did those QB's win a national title? no. Vince's passing numbers are better than Tee's, Vince was the most clutch QB in a while, a whole lot more clutch than Peyton. He could run and throw. Look, I love tennessee football, but Vince Young was better than any tennessee qb.

Vince had only one year in which he was clutch. He never beat OU when they were good. He benefited from a QB controversy disrupting Ohio State's performance. He also wins nothing without an idioticly timed Reggie Bush lateral and a pitch Vince made while on his knee.

I see we need a little history lesson so here it goes. Before the current Bowl Championship Series began in 1998-1999 there was an agreement among bowl games known as the Bowl Alliance (which itself replaced the Bowl Coalition) with the goal being to place the two best teams in the country in a national championship game. The location of the national championship game rotated among the Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar Bowls.

In the 1997 season the bowl alliance national championship game put #3 Tennessee against #2 Nebraska. I'll assume you know the details of the game itself.

#1 Michigan played I believe Washington State in the Rose Bowl. The drawback of the bowl alliance was that the Rose Bowl would not join because they wanted a traditional Pac-10 vs. Big-10 match up.

Your original post never said anything about within the last x number of years. You simply asked if anyone had ever seen a national championship game where the opponent scored 41 points against an SEC team.

Any other questions?

But really do u consider the number 2 vs 3 a NC game?? I dont! And even if we won that game we might not have even got the NC because Michigan was undefeated. Or at best would have been a split. I should have been more clear and said post BCS.

that season it was. Michigan couldn't have played with either of those teams. Nebraska would have beaten them by 30.

So then you're telling me that the Rose Bowl that put #1 Michigan against #8 Washington St. was the national championship game?

You're going to argue no matter what facts are thrown out there proving my original point.

You're totally missing what I am saying...I am not meaning the numbers 2 vs 3 I mean that usually its the number 1 and 2 that play for the NC we were number 3 that year. So it should not have been us. And if the BCS would have been established then it would have been Michigan vs Nebraska. I am saying I dont consider that a NC game.

I'm not missing what you're saying at all. You asked a question, I answered it, you didn't like my answer and then went back and added stipulations to the original question.

Prior to the BCS, #1 played #2 in a bowl game only 11 times (going by the AP rankings). I'll assume you realize there is no official national championship game and even the BCS is not immune to this type of controversy (2004 Rose Bowl).
