I just had to share this with UT fans, because no one else on the national board understood it yesterday.

But after watching the Oregon BSU FIASCO, I couldn't help but notice the comparisons.

1. Oregon was completely unprepared. It was shameful.
2. When things got bad CK looked like a deer in the headlights.
3. When things got really bad, he would walk around a few steps and clap meekly to "energize" his players.
4. Given 85 different chances to comeback and win, his team self destructed.

So, I have to say one thing. At least when UT takes the field this year, no matter how bad they MIGHT be, at least you know you won't have a limp **** like Chip Kelly or Phil Fulmer on the sidelines anymore.

That performance was pathetic.

Please murder UCLA.

the difference is that Fulmer had it in the beginning. His first 5 years were pretty strong

this morning as I was driving to work I was thinking about how Oregon is the Tennessee 2008 for this year. I am not comparing fulmer to kelly to clawson or anything in that realm...but they looked a lot like tennessee last year. wow.

Go to ESPN.com and watch the video on the front page. Some dude from Oregon walked up to a Boise guy and just sucker punched him in the jaw. Then he started going off at the fans and stuff. It was crazy.

Well to be fair, he didn't just "walk up" to the guy. The guy tapped him on the shoulder and started trash talking him and then the Oregon player punched him. I'm not justifying what the Oregon player did at ALL. There's not excuse for what he did and he should be suspended in my opinion. However he did not just single a player out, walk up to him and punch him.

He sucked as a coach from day 1. RGs recruiting and coordinator coaching won him a title.

Ah, I did not realize that. They were talking about it on ESPN radio when I got up this morning and didn't mention anything about him trash talking. It doesn't excuse his actions in any case.

Wow! Poor losers! Maybe if they had actually PREPARED for the game they might have won.

Seriously, that was the least prepared football team I've ever seen, and BSU gave them every chance to win. Neither team should be ranked, but of course, BSU will jump in the polls.

I was pretty confident BSU was going to rock them from the beginning. Say what you want about BSU being a non-BCS school who doesn't have to get up for every game. When they do actually play a major opponent, they bring it. I don't think they are actually one of the top ten teams in the country, but I do think they are generally a better team than Oregon. They've proven that much on the field over the last two years.

#9 of Oregon was disgraceful after the game. It was reminiscent of that Miami-FIU (I think it was FIU, maybe it was FAU or something) melee a few years ago, except he was the only one out of control. He ought to be charged with assault.

I'm no Fulmer apologist but that statement is a little too strong IMO, RG wasn't even at UT for Fulmer's first 4 years and giving credit to Chavis for a title is a stretch at best. While Fulmer certainly wasn't an elite HC, he did have some really good wins before those guys were even in the picture, although the SEC wasn't as strong in his early years as it has been for the last decade.

The most glaring comparison to Fulmer came after the game when commenting on Blount who punched the Boise State player, Kelly said "I will have to watch the tape and then make a decision"

I remember his saying something like "It's just two kids with a lot of emotion. This was a tough game.." etc. I don't remember him saying anything about watching tape. That wouldn't even make any sense. I could be wrong, though.

He won the games he absolutely should have and lost a lot he shouldn't have. He dis start out as a great recruiter, even before. go back and look at those games and teams. Hyper conservatism, no discipline, I'll prepared and low ass expectations were the rule tater than exception.

I'm not crediting Chavis with anything. I'm crediting Cutcliffe. Chavis was conservative as hell, but loaded with talent.

Yeah Ill be fair. Chip Kelly = Fulmer of the 2000's. Not early Fulmer.

And mostly it was the clapping that reminded me of him.

the O was loaded too. Cut was a Johnny ball disciple who also failed to put up numbers vs some terrible teams

Agreed. Conservatism was the overarching style. Painful to watch at times.

True to some degree but I watched alot of games in those early Fulmer years where UT was the underdog, sometimes heavily and won.

Still a stretch at best, we won a title because we were damn good, tough and deep up front on the OL and DL which is where RG and John Stuckey get most of the credit IMO. I've said it before and I'll say it again the 2 biggest losses Fulmer ever had were the departures of Stuckey and Garner.

Fulmers main weakness was he didn't know how to identify and hire top performers. Most of his success was as part of a team hired before him.

Best post I've seen you make on this board. Without having the intent of piling on fulmer, I would have to agree with most of what you said.

However, we never had a player create an on-field incident like Oregon did last night under fulmer. That was dude's FIRST game as a head coach... not a good way to start out at all...
