Was just reading some Patriots related stuff and came across some cool tidbits on our guy CP, figured I'd share as it's a slow week on the board before Gators. Main takeaway was it at least seems like he would have come back for his senior year (would have been Butch's first season) if the academics aligned. Full article on espn boston.

Cordarrelle Patterson's philosophy: 'You have to smile it out'

Going to Tennessee for one season: "Tennessee! First game of the season, Kickoff Classic, Chick-fil-A game. I went in and had two touchdowns and 200-300 all-purpose yards. It was the first time you're hearing the 'Rocky Top' song played, the first time the fans fell in love. I never can forget that moment."

First-round pick of the Vikings in 2013 (No. 29 overall): "I really didn't know what was happening. I was going to stay another year, but probably had to leave because I don't think my grades were very good. Teams tell you when you visit, ‘We're going to draft you this pick -- 5, 10, 25, 30.' A lot of teams went by and we were sitting there at the 27th, 28th pick coming up, and I was like, ‘I'm ready to go.' I was in the greenroom [at the NFL draft] and walked to the bathroom. It was stressful, and coming out of the bathroom, the phone rings and it was [general manager] Rick Spielman. That's when my whole life changed again."

Personal opinion, he was the most electric player I've seen on the offensive side of the ball at Tennessee in atleast a decade.. even for just one season. Kamara is the only guy that comes close. Met him once briefly on campus too, seemed like a super nice guy.

It's also been pretty cool to see him gain the trust of Tom Brady so quickly. At a time when the WR core in NE has been bare, he had an opportunity and so far has done a solid job on offense & specials.

Have a good weekend board!

If he ever learned how to run routes, he'd be a perennial Pro Bowler as a WR and one of the better WRs in the league. He's still made 2 Pro Bowls as a kick returner.

Whenever CP had the ball in his hands, it really looked like most of the defenders were D2 players. He was very special in that regard.

Really was a shame that our defense was so bad the year he was at UT.

As I remember, he broke a special teams record. Not sure if it was return yardage in a career or return yardage in a season. He broke it in the final game of the season against Vandy....

He is one of the very rare exception that pure talent was all he needed.... That guys was amazing with the ball in his hands.

I must admit, when Da Rick left Knoxville, I was worried about our receiving corps. but Dooley said we were going to be fine in the receiving corps. He was right!!!
Not that C.P. was a well polished receiver, but he was able to get first downs and move the chains.

I remember in the Chickfila kick off classic game....

He is one of the elite players who needed to make the NFL jump after one season with us. He made the right decision. Best player with the ball in his hands.

If he had learned to walk the route to the classroom......

(I don't blame him for leaving)

Probably the best pure athlete I've seen in 25 years of Vol watching. Leonard Scott may have been on par with him but no one else.
You missed out on those that were just as good athletes, but much better football players: Richmond Flowers, Condredge Holloway, Stanley Morgan, Carl Pickens, Dale Carter, Terry McDaniel come to mind.

I will never forget meeting him at the hotel in Atlanta a few hours before that first game against NCSTATE and I had him, aj johnson, curt maggitt and marlin lane sign my tshirt. I asked him bluntly "you ready to be a star?"

He chuckled and said "we'll see" and was very humble. We all knew he would be a highlight reel. That's one of my favorite memories from meeting a vol.

I always love covering up his upper body and watching his legs and feet. They go opposite and change up so quickly and effortlessly its amazing.
