For all of those fans that talk about how great our defense was this year:

7 of the 12 teams that we played this year are ranked between 97 and 119 out of 119 teams in total offense.

I am always curious as to the motivation of posts like this one. The Chief is gone, why attempt to belittle a great defense with some stat you just read on another board. I understand that the ranking of our defense this year could be biased by a lack of powerful offenses, but who cares seasons over, and the we'll have a new DC next year. The internet is heaven for people, such as the OP, who like to create the persona of ultra informed skeptic.

The stat how good the defense is, is legit.

Every team has their bad offenses they play. They all also have their share of good offenses.

What the D did is what they did.

These same people are the ones that claim Fulmer won because of this or that.
Yet, when he was losing it was all because he sucks as a coach.

But to be fair too, they were on the field for almost all of the game. the offense never let them rest.

and the object is to hold back the other team. The Vols did that. Was this a great defense? No, and certainly not as good as 95. But it was a very solid defense--especially given our personnel, IMO. Besides Berry, tell me what great players we had on D. We had half a dozen solid players on that side of the ball. I thought Çhavis did a good job with the group considering our front seven wasn't thought to be all that formidable starting the season.

I find the post interesting. The D was solid but not as great as perceived.
3rd and long was still a problem for the team in the big games.

try as i might, i can't help but look back and say "what if" we had an offense worth a darn in '08. best to look ahead though.

If we had any semblance of an offense...scratch that...if we had an offense that simply didn't hand the other team TD's we would have been 9-3(I'm counting UCLA, Auburn, USCe, and Wyoming in that tally)....if we had that and a QB that could have simply managed the game then we would have had a legit shot at UGA and 10-2...

We would have the same amount of SEC championships under Fulmer as we did this time last year, we'd be playing in a New Years Day bowl game, we'd be on our way to a top 5 recruiting class and Fulmer would still be our coach

Look at UGA's stats and then try to brag about our Defense.

If we played UF now, they'd absolutely destroy us.

Hell, Tebow didn't have a big game against us and they still destroyed us. Not dogging UT, but besides UGA, FL, and Bama what good offense did our defense face? Vandy? KY? Miss State? AU? UAB? NIllnois? uSC? All of these are duds IMO

Our defense kept us in games and gave us the opportunity to win. Our offense just wasn't pulling their weight.

Some of that was because the offenses were bad and some of it was because our defense helped bury them down there.

I agree our Defense was good, no doubt. I also know saw our defense getting shredded by the likes of Bama, UGA, and UF (mainly bama & uga)

Other than the first drive of the game, Florida really never drove the field again. Granted they took their foot off the gas when they got a lead, but after watching what they have done the past several games, I'd say our defense did alright against them.

yeah thats why I said mainly Bama and UGA. That game lost it's intensity so quickly, they did take their foot off the gas. Playing them now would be alot different I am afraid. I was just aggrevated at the Tebow jump pass. I called that play, like most people probably did. I think Tebow only had like a 100 and something yds that game.

It can be debated that the UF Offense, aka the sleeping giant, woke up after losing to Ole Miss.

How is Chavis at fault for playing against wretched offenses?

He did his job.

There is no reason to slobber over statistics, I agree, but it's not his fault.

Really? Find me ONE example of another team that played 7 opponents who finished with total offenses ranked between 97 and 119.
