According to Jeffrey Stewart:

1. JELANI JENKINS, 6-1, 205, 4.45 LB
2. BARKEVIOUS MINGO, 6-foot-5, 210, 4.75 LB/DE
3. TRAVIS HAWKINS, 5-11, 185, 4.42 CB

Any thoughts?

I have a friend that lives in Maryland and he has seen him play 3 or 4 times. From what he tells me, he is the real deal. Great hitter with great closing speed. He covers the whole field. He can really get from sideline to sideline. Throw in his awesome GPA and you've got one hell of a prospect. I don't know anything about Mingo and not much about Hawkins, but you gotta love his forty time.

We're really going up against some heavyweights with Jenkins.

It is interesting that there are no DT's on that list. I'm telling you, "silent commits". :)

And Albert Hayensworth is coming back to play one more year while he finishes his degree!!!:crazy::rock:

just imagine Kesling trying to call Mingo's full name during a game....that alone is worth a scholarship.

I never understood why 'silent commits' even makes sense. Why wouldn't you want the kid to come forward? Why wouldn't the kid want to try to get other recruits to commit by coming forward with his commit?...But still god I hope it's true

Some kid in Louisiana might not want the local 'necks giving him hell for several months just because he decided to play for UT instead of the Bayou Bengals.

I guess, but since when is a guy his size going to be scared of what anyone else says? You'd want the kid to be mentally tough too, right? Not to mention proud of UT

If you were the star football player at your highschool. And most people there were Alabama fans or LSU fans or something and you came out early to say you were going to UT or another rival school, your classmates and friends and neighbors get pretty hot headed about that kind of stuff.
Hell, we get hotheaded at each other on here and we are all UT fans.

He's still got a whole season to play. He doesn't need his teammates pissed at him or the fans in the stands booing him. That will seriously happen some places. Arkansas for sure.

I read about one recruit (can't remember who) that kept his commitment silent so other teams would come watch him and maybe notice some of his teammates.

That is a very noble thing to do.

I really hope that we do have a shot a Jenkins. He looks like an incredible player.

That's a very good point. I really never understood the silent commit thing either, but that makes sense.

Hawkins name has surfaced lately as many have speculated that the defensive back has committed to the University of Maryland, but Mencarini assured me that is not the case and added that Hawkins is currently on vacation.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Hawkins has narrowed his choices though. Maryland, Georgia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan and Oregon are the seven schools Hawkins will choose from.

As to when Hawkins will commit, Mencarini said he does not think his star athlete has a timetable.

I cant see us adding another db until we hear something from Miles, Gordon, or Teague. But, rumors are that this is Chief's guy.
