got me to thinking about our current team's true colors. It would seem that the UGA gane was simply an abberration. The true color of our defense is white, as in raise the white flag of surrender. We sure laid down for DJ Hall, Boyd, McKinnley, etc. Our O is passable, but very inconsistent. Im still suprised that we've seen absolutely nothing from O'Neal. Our true colors? if average is a color, we would be that.

let me also say that people throw that 1st place in the east out there as a way of saying that Tennessee is a good football team. GA, do you really think Tennessee is worthy of that label? In the past the winner of the SEC East could always be considered one of the elite teams in college football, not so this year. The east is watered down considerably, yet, people will point out our standings to argue that we're just fine. No way are we ok in terms of the way we are performing right now.

I'm not sure if it is a function of the division being watered down, or the bottom of the division starting to catch up. UK and Vandy have been marked down as wins for every team for a long time. Now everyone has to come to play every week... and NONE of the teams have managed to do so. It just happens that the Vols have looked worse in their losses.

at least we used to play to the level of our competition, now we cant even keep up with many teams in our own conference. thats what really worries me.

what we are is a subpar team that backed into first place. the truth hurts, but doesnt make it any less true.

Cowherd was talking about you guys as the example proving that the SEC is second best this year to PAC 10 and down in general. Says you got blown out three times and that Cal will finish 5th in PAC 10 and smoked you. Says the best SEC teams this year aren't that good. Also pointed out that FSU beat 'bama.

Cowherd talked about the SEC in general. The only reason he couldn't include Florida in his statements about OOC games is who have you played so far?

and he's exactly right....how does it feel for us to suck and yet you're looking up at us in the standings?

I'm not saying that UF is any better in terms of showing off the SEC. We did beat the snot out of tOSU last year and I think we deserve some credit for making the SEC look really good.

But that was last year and the only good OOC team we play is FSU and right now they are basically Tulsa. So I'm not saying that the Gators are doing anything in particular this year to pull their weight in representing "the 'hood" that is the SEC.

two things.. you said it, but i'm reminding everyone again. tOSU was last year and Cowherd did bash Bama for losing to FSU. Beat FSU and you've at least got that going for ya.

so you count FSU as a "good" occ team? I think OCC "orange county choppers" could field a better OCC team than FSU.

Two things back atcha' ... one is that FSU is so pathetic, especially right now with no QB stepping up at all, that if we lose to them I promise you I will throw up. Second, I fully admit that Florida is doing nothing this year to bolster the SEC overall rep.

Hopefully we will get a chance to do something in a bowl game, but as I haven't a clue where we will end up this year (I'm figuring probably Outback, Gator, or Cap One and probably versus some middle of the road Big Ten team), I can't figure us to do that much end of December, early January.

This is not to say, however, that Cowherd is wrong, either in saying that the SEC is down this year or in saying that proof of that is that UT controls its fate in the SECE and has been far less than impressive in getting there.

It is simply a fact that when UT has lost it has lost miserably and it did lose to Cal, which has turned out to be not nearly as good as they looked when they beat you. Same, ironically, can be said for Florida. In fact, one of the reasons I'm so disappointed in the Gators this year is that when they whalloped UT I sort of thought maybe we'd do something. But right now we look very average out there.

first off rex, it's OOC, unless i'm missing that someone messed it up somewhere?

secondly, my intentions was that everyone could understand my FSU comment was dripping with sarcasm. Anyone who heard Cowherd's comments knew he was talking about how bad FSU was and yet they beat Bama. As LG said, FSU is essentially Tulsa. Nothing great, not even good, but nothing completely horrible either.

Also, UT should at least make a bowl game. Hopefully that will give us a chance to beat someone outside the conference, just like UF will in whatever bowl game they go to. But until late December and Jan 1, the SEC has nothing to brag about.

it was a joke, albeit a poor one. I always pull for the SEC when OOC. You say the SEC is nothing to brag about and I agree. That is what drives me crazy. People on this board try to defend the current state of our program by pointing to the fact that we're in first in the SECE. What Im saying is that is a completely invalid arguement.

Rexvol - you start a pessimistic thread like this about about once and week and it has been going on for a year now...what exactly can you do about it?

Don't bash the people that like to look at the bright side of things. Why do you care so much about people taking the glass half full approach anyways? Don't say its because you are a true fan, that response is played out just like all of your pessimistic posts...
