Neither was Tebow.
He was drafted in the first round as a quarterback. I think it's safe to say they expected him to be a starting, successful quarterback, no matter how stupid it was to take him in the first round.
Dobbs could be the Tebow that Tebow wasn't for them.
I'm going to get laid on a butcher block and quartered into flank steaks and bacon strips for this.
I honestly believe Tebow misfired because the coaches mucked with his throwing motion. It was primitive, awkward, unorthodox, and everything technically wrong. But it worked. Changing it made him unworkable as a QB. I recall in college, I had a very unorthodox softball pitching motion. Hard to explain it but instead of winding my arm to throw, I held the ball in both hands while twisting my torso to my right, the ball now to my side and hip level. All this happenedas I lifted my right leg up, in mid-forward step my left gloved hand moved away from the ball and my hand right twisted my wrist so my palm was facing backwards holding the ball. During the forward step my my arm came forward an my ball hand rotated so the palm now faced upward and the released ball shot out with horizontal(?) roating motion like a spinning classroom globe. Batters who hit the ball, it usually just went straight down into the ground in front of them. If they managed to give it a good lick it tended mainly just pop for an easy out. OK, now the coach/PE teacher kept insisted I couldn't do that. I never saw anything in the rules book that forbade that pitching motion. But he insisted I wind my arm to throw. Result? I was wild, pitchs went right, left, moonward, and sometimes tried to play groundhog or frog I guess. I suspect Tebow's throwing motion worked for him as my softball pitching motion worked for me. Changing it just mucked up the ability to deliver the throws.
Elway knew the first interception that Peyton threw would bring the cries to bench him from the Tebow fanatics. He had Reeves grooming Tommy Maddox while Elway was entering his prime and didn’t want that for the franchise QB he had won in the free agent sweepstakes. In retrospect...even greater decision.I actually don't disagree with you. I think a lot of coaches/people in charge are afraid of something different because they know it could make or break their career. Sure, if Tebow could have been as good with a new throwing motion as he was with his slow and awkward one, he could have been better. But no one can deny he's a winner and someone you want in your locker room.
I also think he could have benefitted from being in the same locker room as Peyton if Denver hadn't gotten rid of him when they brought the sheriff in.
I suppose linking the article never occurred. Most impressive QB on the field Thursday did not play for Panthers. But could he?
If you look at the picture, its pretty clear that i read the article in the old fashioned, printed on paper form. So having never encountered the internet version, no, it wouldnt occur to me to link it...i also didnt link the 2 pieces of pizza on the table right next to the paper. Whoda thunkit?
