Hey,

Just wondered if anyone thinks it would be beneficial for us to change conferences while we rebuild. Surely the fact that we are in the SEC means we have a harder time each year because we have to play NC contenders?

I could be wrong, but don't you think that moving to the Big 10 for instance would be better suited for us, we would be able to win lots of games, and then when we become a contender we could move back.

We could still keep our rivalry games with Bama and Florida right?

I am sorry if my knowledge is rubbish, and that this could/would never happen. I was just thinking that maybe we would be better off in a slightly easier conference for the time being.

It's a blessing to be able to play on the SEC. Yes, we do beat the absolute crap out of each other during he regular season, but it's the best conference in America. Like I said, it's a blessing.

Why should I lock it? It's just me asking a question... I don't want to be shot at dawn for it.

I'm pretty new to college sports, so I am still learning how it works on the job really.

You just can't leave the best conference in football to rebuild and show back up. Lose money, Lose support, Lose creditability by doing that.

Young and foreign. You should get a pass on this one.

The short answer is no way in ****.

Yea he should get a pass, please look up some Vol history and some SEC history. No way we should ever leave the SEC. The $$$$ alone makes this a no-brainer

Because the SEC makes the most money, and Tennessee sees that money.

Also, it's the most prestigious conference, soaked with tradition, makes perfect sense geographically.

This whole swapping conferences is pretty new. You'd have a team move here or there every couple years, but this is something never seen before.

We should remember that this is a devoted Vol fan from Europe trying to learn more about the SEC, football, and the Vols. Let's educate and not destroy for something he doens't know people.

Would that really happen? We would loose fans because of a conference change?

Look at Boise though, they play an easy schedule and seem to be considered as a contender. They jump conferences every year.

There are a lot of reasons that changing conferences is bad. Essentially the SEC is the pinnacle of College Football, look at it as the premier league in English Football. If you are one of the lucky teams to be in the SEC you never leave, you are the envy of all other college football teams. It would be dishonorable

Well Yes...of course, as you may have heard, there is a plan up for consideration to move to the Mid-American Conference...just for 3 years to build a recruiting base outside of SEC and to get some quality wins for CDD. Then come back stronger....it could work.

You think they'll reserve our spot for us?

I have been learning my vols history by reading the college vault book. But I thought you could kind of lock rivalries if you changed conference? So we could still play the main teams like Bama but not get slaughtered by the other sec teams.

I see what you mean. I didn't think of it from that point of view, (conference prestige).

I suppose the answer was no then. I had a feeling that it would be but I just wondered if other teams had done it before and it had worked out. Therefore we could give it a go.

Thanks for your continued interest as a Vol fan. Times will be a lot more fun when we start winning again.

To answer your question, however, this move would never happen. Tennessee has so much history and association with the conference. Also, the SEC is the best conference in all of college football: wins, money, exposure, etc.

It's been a rough few years, but it's cyclical. We will be back up at the top soon enough.
