Chances Dwight Howard Stays On Orlando?

I think he will leave, they have no chance of winning a title.

With you on that. I think the Bulls make a run at him. The Heat might, but I have no idea who they get rid of in the process

Maybe they will trade him and at least get something for him.

Unless the Lakers are going to give up Gasol and Bynum, maybe the Bulls for Boozer, Deng and Noah. Either one would have to take back Hedo or Arenas. Would it really be worth it to either team?

Maybe the Bulls because Howard and Rose could be sick. Plus they'd still have Gibson. I doubt the Lakers do it just because the combo of Howard/Kobe wouldn't last very long. Although Howard, Odom and Kobe could potentially pull off a championship or two before all is said and done.

Basically, the Magic are going to want a lot. I'm not sure they'll get what they want because it would deplete the other team and he's a rare breed. It would be hard to trade him away without getting a lot. They'll probably try to make a trade to build around him. They'd have to win or he'd bolt though. It's a double edge sword, they're not going to get what he's worth. I'm betting on taking a risk to win with him next year.

The Lakers aren't getting much value in Bynum at this point anyway, so I'd say a move for Howard is a no-brainer, even if it requires dishing Gasol.

And taking back Turkoglu or Arenas's contract?

I think Bynum and Gasol might be about the best offer the Magic could get if they can rid themselves of Turk or Arenas in the process.

It didn't sound like the Lakers GM was open to trading Bynum though.

Absolutely. Put Arenas at the 2 and you've fixed that problem. (Depending on if you get 100% out of Gilbert.)

The thought of this line-up gets me pumped.

PG: Rose
SG: Arenas
SF: Hedo
PF: Gibson
C: Howard

I didn't realize the the trade would work if the Bulls took both Turkoglu and Arenas with Howard. Weird because it also works with just Arenas and Howard.

And now that I think about it... Lakers might be able to get away with trading just Gasol or Bynum for the Magic. I'd rather pair one of them with Odom but I doubt Orland wants Odom. So if the Lakers wait til the end of the year, Odom's contract expires and Howard opts out. Now, Howard says he is leaving and he'll only do a sign and trade for just Gasol or Bynum. So the Lakers would probably end up with Howard, Gasol and Kobe. Might have to add some 1st round picks. Would be around 25-30 anyways.

Sorry but most people's trade scenarios just do not make sense. First of all, Orlando will do exactly what Denver or Utah did. And that is get a bunch of young starters in return or get a couple of young players and a ton of draft picks.

However, I think Dwight Howard ends up staying in Orlando. He does not want to go to LA or a huge market.

But the Nets believed they could re-sign Deron Williams.

Unless the team feels like they can re-sign Dwight Howard, why would they trade away a bunch of young guys for a one year rental?

Dwight has stated he wants to create a different path and not follow shaq. I'm sure That statement is contingent upon a decent run next year which can happen. Like I said in the other thread this team has been together for half a season without training camp and without meaningful practices. That is why they were so inconsistent. Dwight loves Orlando and Orlando loves him. He will not get anything better from another city. Regarding that.

Fwiw I do not blame Dwight for the Magics issues. I blame Otis smith, the GM, who has constantly ruined the team chemistry every year since they became elite. And now we are in a huge hole cap space wise.

"There's no other place I'd rather be besides Orlando," Howard told NBA.com. "As of right now, that's my home. I just want to stay in Orlando as long as I can.

"That's the truth. I don't have to keep things calm or anything. This is how I really feel in my heart. A lot of people want to see me go other places, but I want to stay in Orlando. I have a beautiful home there. There are beautiful people down there. My son is in Orlando. He's getting a lot older and I want to be there to see as many moments as I can of his life."

-Dwight Howard.

I'm not worried. Otis smith will have to pull his head out of his rear end or Dwights departure will match his own.

It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with him saying he is going to test free agency.

Yeah, that would make me worry. He claims he wants to be in Orlando but then says he's going to check out other options. If you truly want to be there, you sign an extension and stay. He's going to get the max amount anyways.

He may very well stay but I'd definitely be worried if they didn't play for the championship next year.

It's hopefully trying to push Otis to do his job and figure out the mess he created by putting the pressure on him.

I wouldnt use that option if I were Dwight. Try to recruit, if you will, 2012 FA and try your luck there. If it doesn't happen then leave in 2013.

Come on, if a trade goes down, the team trading for him will know they can re-sign him.

Arenas majorly sucks. He hasn't been good for 4 years. Hedo's OK, but I'd much rather have Deng. That team probably wins less than Chicago did this year.
