Does Vanderbilt continue to show major commitment to their football program and offer Chad Morris the job?

I just don't understand why he would take it, unless the money is just too good to turn down. He's going to get a HC offer soon, probably this year. Why start your HC career out in a place where you can't win your conference, where you'll always have a talent disadvantage vs most of your competition and where you're following the best coach they've ever had? Just seems like suicide.

On the other hand, why not go somewhere where 6-7 wins per year in a major conference will earn you a contract extension and a raise?

The expectations at Vandie used to be hopeful to get to a bowl game.

Now the expectation is not only a bowl game, but a 9 win season or better. Chad Morris could win there. Not saying he would win the SEC regularly, but he could compete in the east.

Something our UT Vols can't even do...........

Bob Shoop (current DC) Derek Mason (Stanford DC), and Mark Hudspeth (UL-Lafayette) are the early names being bantered about. No mention of Morris.

Out of the blue, I am thinking Colorado's Mike MacIntyre as a possibility. I don't know what his contract is, but his dad, George MacIntyre, was coach at UTM and then Vandy from '79 to 85, where he won the Dodd award. Nashville might be a homecoming of sorts for the younger McIntyre

True. But, as history has shown, it's really very hard to average 6-7 wins a season at Vanderbilt. Odds are, you'd be killing yourself just to manage that. And even if you do it, you'll never be held in as high esteem as the guy you repalced.

Even Franklin never really competed in the east (or at least not for tops in the division, if that's what we mean by "compete"). What makes you think that Chad Morris could do it, when no one has in the last 50 years?

It seldom works out to be the guy that follows "The Guy".

Regardless who they pick they had better move fast because their recruiting class is melting right before their very eyes.

Morris may be smart to abandon Clemson pretty soon. I realize they're recruiting well. But they lose A LOT on offense this year and will likely struggle a bit next year, even in the ACC.

I think he should hold out for a HC opportunity at a mid lvl SEC job like Arky or USC though.
