Serious question…
What has happened to the UGA running game? Where have all the elite backs that you all put in the League gone? It didn’t matter who was coach, you guys have always had superstars at running back and now there seems to be an absents. Is this just recruiting misses?
Well, it’s true we don’t have a stable of running backs like Gurly, Chubbs, Michel, and Swift, but let’s be honest, who does? I mean Ohio State has two superstars after attaining Judkins through the portal and that is paying dividends for them, but there isn’t a backfield aside that compares to UGA of old IMO.
We’ve had injury issues as is often the case at the RB position. Heck we’ve started a freshman most of the season and our 3rd down back has been a walk on. Don’t get me wrong, Frazier and Jones are good players, but this emphasizes our issues in the backfield. Branson Robinson is injured as is Rodrick Robinson. Both have missed basically all season. Both are really good backs, Rodrick is an absolute Demon Beast!!! Honestly, think Lacy or Henry. I’m not saying he will be as good, but that’s the type of back you’re looking at.
It wasn’t our backs that killed us though against ND. They didn’t play great, but we couldn’t block ND’s small and quick DT’s effectively. We couldn’t run the ball bc we got down and abandoned the running game. It was a mistake IMO. ND did exactly what they wanted to, and we allowed them to do it.
Anyway, there is talent in our backfield coming. The two Robinsons, Frazier, Bowens, and a kid named Phillips Jr that can run a sub 4.3. That is before the next recruiting class. It’s not like our backfields of old, but it has tons of potential. Time will tell, but I guess the best answer to your question is that we can’t stay healthy at the position. It’s a tough position to stay healthy at.
