CFP Quarterfinals Rose Bowl: #8 Ohio State vs #1 Oregon (5pm ESPN)

We ran into a bad situation when we played OSU. After that MI game, they are playing as a team on a mission. Oregon looks as pedestrian as we did playing OHST.

I wonder if this changes any of the Chicken Little’s we had after our beatdown.
Has Oregon ever won a championship? I thought OSU beat that “haven’t won since 1998” dead horse into the ground against Tennessee.

I think we could have beaten about 2/3 of the 12 teams. Look at vaunted Oregon. They are doing no better than we did, worse actually, and they are in far better circumstances, a neutral field and not in the cold (tho less likely to affect the ducks). AND we had a lot of key players out.

We got the crappiest draw out there against an OSU team that has a loaded roster and was motivated to keep their coach.

I dont think we were ready to win it all but with a different draw, we absolutely would have gone deeper, quite possibly to the semis.
You’re out of your mind. We may have beaten Indiana, possibly SMU, and maybe Boise. Nobody else.

Huh, so that was Oregon. Not feeling as bad about our performance, while it was bad, I think we can all agree that OSU is clearly the team to beat. I am all in on the talent disparity being the most cause for the defeat…that and losing Sampson early on

When your o-line gives up 8 sacks and if you remove those negative yards you rush for 20(otherwise it is a -23) ...you have run into a buzzsaw. I think Sark has his work cut out for him. Not sure anyone left can beat what osu put on the field today. Heck they would have given the Titans a game of it today.

$20m roster and that’s what they get. OSU may be the new Bama with everybody playing by the same rules.

I still think our game against OSU would’ve been much closer with Sampson, Thornton and White on the field. Oh well…….
Agreed but I think we still would have lost. Sampson has been the key piece to our season this year for sure.

But really everybody isn't playing by the same rules. Maybe technically, but it is turning into having the best team money can buy. And I don't think it is sustainable for college football.

I agree but now that the NCAA has been neutered they can’t play favorites anymore. See Bama getting away with murder while we get targeted for enforcement. If the NCAA was competent and fair in the least we wouldn’t be here.

Most Overrated stadium in North America. The amenities suck, restrooms suck, & you're so far from the field because of the gradual slope. Of all the stadiums my family has traveled to over the decades, the Rose Bowl was our least favorite & we've been to Vandy.
No doubt. As a stadium, the Rose Bowl is terrible. Time to move on from that POS

I agree, I’m not fan of all this Wild Wild West in College Football that we all live in, but Ole Miss had a $20 mil roster as well this year. Basically, if a team does not play the NIL game, they will get left in the dust.

We could definitely beat Penn State or Notre Dame, and we would give anyone else but OSU everything they could handle. We got screwed in the draw, the one place where any team in the field would have been boat raced.

I think we could have beaten PSU and ND in close games. Oregon, Texas, and obviously OSU would have been losses we just aren’t there yet. PSU is fools gold IMO.
I think it would depend on what team showed up as well. Ohio state was damn good but some of our guys weren’t focused. I don’t see us beating ND or Penn State in their houses. In Neyland probably be a good game. Actually think we would match up with Texas as well. Georgia also on a neutral field would’ve been a good game. Ohio State is just really good.

We drew the most talented team at their house and they were pissed off and not wanting to be embarrassed at home.

The truth is we don't know how the game at OSU would have gone had we (1) had the services of Sampson and (2) played inspired football.

What happened in that game is that (1) OSU played its best football and was motivated to win because of their loss the week before and (2) Tennessee was not at full strength and except for a couple of players were not motivated enough to give it their best.

Oregon beat OSU in the regular season - yes, they got beat by a very motivated OSU team.

OSU is good but they have lost twice this year - they ARE NOT world beaters! They can be beat.

And Tennessee is not as bad as some of you make them out to be - on a good night they can play with any of the other 11.

And it is also obvious that the SEC teams have beat up on each other due to the scheduling. One would think it would make them tougher, but it can also take its toll on the players.

Beyond the players (which Ohio State has), Chip Kelly's play calling was a master class of what a good OC can bring to the table. Oregon had no idea what to do on defense to stop Ohio State. If we want to play with the top teams, we need a better roster overall (receivers, OL, LB, etc..) and we need top notch coordinators.

Why do you think we couldn't beat Clemson, Texas, or ASU?

Honestly, how good is Texas? I still don't know. They got owned by UGA at home when Beck was playing well. They lost at a neutral site when Beck didn't play well. They beat TAMU, Clemson, and they beat ASU...I don't know where to put them.
