The comment that is "past time for UT to take the next step" is so misleading. UT has taken the next step each season Jones has been at the helm and that is indisputable.

does nobody think that the comment about DB not being as good as myles garret is incorrect?

We most of us think it's incorrect. But it's old news that the media hype is on Garrett when DLine is the topic.

As with all individual recognition, though, that will change once we start winning championships. Individual awards and recognition follow team accomplishment. Has been that way forever.

I think our kids take it as a personal challenge when we go to College Station and they"ll have DBs back. I predict we run all over Garrett in particular and the A&M offense will not have an answer for DB who will play as if he is in their offensive huddle.

I'll talk 11-1 in a heartbeat for regular season. Sets us up for success in the SECG and then a productive bowl season.

Tired of seeing references like this article saying Bama "pounded us".... Did I watch a different game? I seem to remember it basically coming down to the last possession and we were driving to take the lead with little time left before the turnover... It didn't help that we missed 3 field goal attempts...

You can look at that four game stretch two ways:
The obvious is that it will be a murderous stretch with two away games back to back coming off an emotional win over the Gators. Will we be emotionally and physically down after the FL game and GA pumped to get a win at home after two losses in a row? A&M is just a head scratcher, and we could be on fumes by AL..
The other way (and positive scenario) is that all four teams will have a new QB (A&M new to the system) and we won't be as physically beat down like we would be at the end of the season and hopefully our experience and stamina will push us over the edge. Winning against FL at home should carry us for the next two games and could have GA worried...
Both scenarios could happen but conditioning/stamina will play the biggest role as to how successful we are in this stretch. I also don't think Dobbs, Sutton, JRM, and our RB's want to leave without beating FL, and running the table.

We would all love to see that! But, that is very unlikely. 10-2 or 9-3 is much more likely with the schedule that UT will face.

That would basically mean a loss to FL, GA, and AL at 9-3 and would be completely unacceptable in the eyes of most.... we could lose two ( GA is a 50/50 since away and after FL, and AL) or (A&M surprises us and AL), but any other scenario would not bode well for Butch and Co....

Barring a slew of injuries, 12 - 0 is much more likely more likely than 9 - 3.

Based on what? UT hasn't beaten UF in 11 years, Bama in 8, not to mention they haven't beaten a SEC West team on the road in 9 years. Until they break those streaks, I'm not at all confident that the Vols will go undefeated. 10-2 or 9-3 looks like a more accurate prediction for this season. Anyone who thinks that UT will go 12-0 is most likely in for a huge let down!

Maybe not for a semi-delusional fan base, but 9-3 would probably get Butch a raise and a contract extension. After all it is still progress. It may not beenough progress for many folks buts it's certainly progress for a program that was left for dead just a few years ago.

True, but the Vols need at least a 10 win season to keep recruiting on the up swing........the schedule is indeed a tough one and will challenge Butch & Co

Butch went all in by having year long Captains. After having a great spring, he wants to double down, too bad CBJ your already "All IN". Let the players have their fun on the field.

See y'all in Tampa.

Are you kidding? Losing to FL, GA, and either A&M or Bama would put him on the hot seat, not a raise....

No I'm not kidding! 9-3 this year gets him a contract extension, especially, if he wins another bowl game. Dave Hart and the rest of the UT administration love Butch, and the last thing they want is another coaching search regardless of what the semi-delusional fan base may think.

The key is staying healthy. If we finish the season with basically the same guys we start with and no key injuries (and we all know who they are) I think 11-1 is very doable. 12-0 possible.
