I've had VZW for years but in the 3Q when there were 40k left at the stadium, I wanted to check other scores and some of my bets and had practically zero success until I actually left the stadium. My buddy next to me has AT&T and seemed to be browsing around with no issues.

VZW used to be king in east TN but I've noticed this to not necessarily be the case over the past year or so. Is this just a one-off with me or is anyone else having issues like this as well?

sub-topic - why tf do they continue to never show other scores of interest on the marquee? the three times they showed the same highlights from the VT-WVU game do not count

They show them on the televisions if you are sitting in lower deck seating. I’ve never had an issue with service at Neyland ever. I’ve had both att and Verizon

Agree w you on both points. Cell service (at least with Vzw) is completely substandard and the lack of information/scores about other games is awful.

The in stadium experience at Neyland has dropped off significantly compared to even just a few years ago. The music situation is awful - the POTS don’t get to play anything besides rocky top after scores and during pregame/halftime. The rest of the time, we just hear music blaring over the loud speakers, and those speakers can’t handle the sound. So it just sounds distorted. It’s too much like a pro game environment.

The beer situation is also a nightmare. You can only buy beers from special beer stations, not regular concession stands. So if you want a vol dog and a beer, then you’re gonna stand in the beer line for 20 minutes, and then the concession stand line for another 15 minutes. It’s completely unacceptable.

UT is competing with the comfort of fans’ living rooms for attendance. If UT wants to fill Neyland, they need to give fans a reason to attend. A lot of the pageantry of college football has been sucked out of Neyland in the name of pop music and DJs. They also need to make it more comfortable for fans — that means more efficient access to food/beer, cell service, and more information about what is going on in other games around the country. And more replays on the Jumbotron. A change at P.A. announcer wouldn’t hurt in my opinion.

vast majority of fans aren't able to see those screens, though. and which service do you have now or over the past 2-3 years?

Yes, Verizon was terrible yesterday. I did manage to turn on my Wi-Fi and connect to "utopen" , which they throttle at a 2 MB connection, and use it to keep up with other scores on the ESPN app. Also was able to watch the Tennessee game on the phone to see replays etc. Inexcusable in 2021

I no longer live in ET, but could yesterday have been a lingering issue with the earlier statewide VZ outage?

Yeah, same here with VZW. They gotta up their game. Didn’t they used to be a sponsor for Pete’s sake?

I have always had Verizon and cell service is extremely limited inside the stadium. It will be there for a moment and poof-gone the next

2mb is a vast improvement than the 2kb everyone else is getting on the VZW network, at least. i didn't even consider wifi because i figured there was no way that was even an option. is it throughout the stadium or just around the terrace?

I don't know the answer to your question about the terrace. I sat about 10 rows down from it, still under the covered area. I don't know how far the wifi extends. This is the first time I've ever tried using it.

If you are a student or sponsored guest you can access it at a higher speed. However, I'm neither. So I just have to put my email address in and accept the limited speed version, which is still good enough.

There are times of absolutely nothing going on where it is just dead. No band, no cheer, nothing and they could give out scores of interest. Top 25 and SEC games. The Kentucky vs Chatt game would've been good to know. We pay top dollar and can't even announce some of the scores. It is about time to tell them to freaking stuff it and stop going and donating money. They don't give a crap. It cost them ZERO to announce scores. Before you ask, no commercials or ads of any sort at those times either.

I've had AT&T for years and, while it's not super-speedy on gamedays there, I generally have pretty good luck with the occasional score update, text, and viewing of the game conversation on Volnation during the dead periods. (Can't speak to experience with Verizon, because I have none)

Neyland is a giant Faraday cage. You ain't gettin' cell coverage in there. Besides, isn't it a "fan sin" to be on your cell phone while the Vols are playin'??;)

The #2 reason I gave up the lower level season tickets I held since graduating from UTK.

There’s a distributed antenna system (DAS) that’s intended to improve on cellular coverage inside the stadium. Carriers can opt in to using the DAS by putting their repeaters on the antennae that are in the stadium. A few years ago the carriers that had decided to use the DAS were AT&T, Verizon and US Cellular… so if you were using Sprint, T-Mobile, Cricket etc you were just s.o.l.

I don’t make a habit of telling folks to get off of my lawn, but I have to tell you, the incessant music in between plays and the volume of the music are just a tad overdone. I enjoy listening to loud music but not at a football game and definitely not to where I can’t even hear the crowd. While I like Jeff Jarnigan, the oversell on the 3rd down announcements is a little tough. All this being said, we reluctantly moved back west from East Tennessee a couple of years ago and this was the first game we have been to since the move. The experience yesterday was great with the folks we were around, but to your point, the fan experience has deteriorated dramatically in a very short period of time…
