Alright so I ordered an LG GSM phone off of EBay. Figured it would all work out fine, GSM's are the same everywhere, right? Well, not so much... The carrier on this one is TelCel, from Mexico. So I pop my Cingular SIM card in the phone, and phone calls and texting work fine. My address book transfers right over.

My problem is trying to get into the Cingular net work, MEdia Net, and being able to use AOL Instant Messenger from my phone (the actual program, not just IM forwarding). I go to the Cingular website, and follow the directions to input network settings... The one thing I've noticed, on my phone, are a different set of proxy settings than is displayed on the Cingular website. It tells me to put in an IP address that looks like this: XX.XXX.XX.XX, while my phone has an IP input that looks like this: XX.XXX.XXX.XX. Then there's no option to choose a port.

Was wondering if anybody could give me any help.

btw, would a Cingular location be willing to help with my phone?

They should. Wouldn't take them but a second to flash the thing to their current software. If you are out by a store, stop in. I bet you're out the door in 15 minutes with things working properly.

You're exactly right... although sometimes the techs aren't that bright and it can take longer... but they shouldn't have a problem flashing the phone with their own firmware, in which case you would be good to go. :)

I dropped by... They said they can't do it because Cingular didn't sell the device. If I can't get this thing hooked up, I'll just take the refund money, some extra b-day money and try and get a Blackjack.

You may search the net some if you have a data cable. I once flashed my CDMA Verizon LG phone with a firmware I found online and a utility. :pardon:
