Cedric Tillman has a bright future?

I hear USC found him but did not have room for him, so coach Helton called his brother Tyson and told him about C.T. Tyson Helton and other coaches looked at his film and saw a lot a raw ability. The other WR decommitted we had an opening. He has good size good speed and good hands, that is a good combo!!!

Sounds like he's been doing well in practice, but still a bit early to say much given that it's only practice. Nevertheless, if he lives up to the billing, would certainly help shore up the WR corps this season. Pretty good size, too; some of the clips in his highlight reel are him jumping up and grabbing a ball in traffic. There's at least one on the Hudl video where the QB throws up a prayer that probably should've been intercepted and Tillman nabs it.

Yeah, after I saw his film, I couldn't believe no one had offered him.

I don't want to say too much before he's even played a game, but definitely seems like he was underrated in the recruiting services. The rating services often put a ton of stock into Junior seasons and virtually ignore Senior seasons. Tillman may have been a bit of a late bloomer. Look at his stats and he didn't do much his Jr year, but exploded his Sr year.

Stats

Junior: 8 recs, 73 yds, 2 TDs, 9 ypc
Senior: 37 recs, 773 receiving yds, 7 TDs, 21 ypc

One thing I've noticed is that he's listed under a lot of different heights, so he might've also hit a huge growth spurt in the past year or two.

Looking forward to seeing WRs actually developed, instead of come in and look like superstars, only to disappear, either regressing or transferring.

yep, sounds like he's doing pretty good so far, but Byrd will be the secret weapon...;)

GO VOLS!

Palmer could always just quit dropping balls if he’s that worried
Palmer has some serious drop issues
If you were looking for WR consistency last year there were two truths.

Brandon Johnson was gonna catch it (except that one time in the end zone against usc)....and Josh Palmer is gonna drop it.

Perhaps you can add this one as well, Ethan wolf is gonna average less than half a step of yac.

How is it that we had soooo many players like him that never seemed to get better? Nobody answer that please. Gosh.

Palmer going to be okay in the future he just needs to develop at the position. He should have been redshirted last season instead of starting. How ur starting wr have less than 10 catches? Brandon should have been on the outside with Callaway last season. People need to realize that Palmer is a late bloomer. He didn't start on his high school team in Florida until the last few games of the year. Beard brought Palmer to Tennessee.

Those crazy JAzzani Hands, lol, only on Lyle Jones team.
And when Zach A. went to the bears , good riddance I thought...then last year happened.

Just a theory... but I think Jones coached from "book knowledge". Always reading some book or going to some conference to be on the lead edge of some new idea. He talked a lot about "technique" but I wonder how much of that was just someone's "new idea". One thing I remember from early in his tenure that stuck with me was former players and maybe some of those really good OL's that were left to him complaining about being taught completely new "techniques".... techniques that never worked.

I don't think it helps that he really didn't seem to have an "inside out" understanding of football.

Before blaming Z or any of the other assistants... it might be helpful to note where everyone went from UT.

Z is coaching WR's in the NFL.

Hoke is a DL coach for the Panthers.

Larry Scott is the WR coach for UF.

Shoop is the DC at MSU.

Gillespie is RB coach at UNC.

Thigpen is the LB coach at UNC.

Canales is the OC at UTEP.

Warren is coaching for UF.

Wells is OL coach at USF.

Stripling is back at Cincy

Jancek is DC at Colorado State.

Mahoney is OL coach at ECU

Bajakian is the QB coach for the Bucs.

…...…. Lyle Allen Jones Jr is an intern or something like that at Bama.

My point is that all or at least the vast majority of Jones' assistants had no trouble getting jobs at or even above the level they were at UT. Jones.... not so much.

I agree with about all of this, except that Brandon was really effective from the slot the couple of times he started there. I know he ain't exactly the prototypical slot receiver and better fits the role opposite Calloway as a #2 possession receiver. But it's hard to argue with the production he put up as a slot guy, and if he's there it allows a trio of calloway, Jennings and Johnson from a 3 receiver set. And that's a helluva starting receiver corps.

Sounds like Tillman and Grey talent but needs development. It also sounds like Calloway and Palmer are dropping way too many passes.

The quiet ones are the ones we can probably depend on- Johnson and remarkably Byrd. Jennings is a gamer so my money would be on him too.
