CBS not impressed with Basketvols as much as we are

THIS team hasn't even practiced together, much less played a game together. Do we have "talent" on paper? 100%. I'd hold off on all the FF talk until we actually see how this team gels, etc. LOTS of egos to please on this roster. We'd better hope that Barnes can manage them.

Screw that. I'm already debating where the title banner should go in the rafters.

Talent wins BB games and this team has way more talent than last yrs. team. Horrible shooting team last year. If they weren't one of the best rebounding teams in the country they would have lost more than the 12-14 games they lost .

I assume you the CBS way too early basketball rankings. Even after getting Juke, the CBS rankings leave us out of the top 10. Florida, (1) Arkansas, (7) and Texas’s (9) ranked ahead of us. I know these are just opinions, but it appears the conference is loaded.
I could care less what the basketball ranking are in May. Wake me up when we get to November.

There are 3 recruiting pools for college sports. High schools, transfer portal, and overseas professional leagues. High school and transfer portal are basically over with. I wonder how programs like LSU and Kentucky will fair in the overseas recruiting.. I hope we’re not behind the times again on what’s best to build a contender. No one has tried spending $20 million on professionals overseas yet.

We have been signing overseas players for years, ON, Vescovi, Pons, Uros, even Massamba (sp?). You can be exhausting

Barnes had to replace 11 players last season and many times we had 3 freshmen on the court together. Jacoby played 95% of the time in big games. He will have many more experienced options this season and as usual it will be the guys who perform well in practice that will play. I can imagine some really competitive practices.

What I said was no one has built a $20,000,000 international roster yet. What you responded to was that no one has recruited any international players.. I couldn’t find that statement anywhere for you.

Get some rest.

CBS's too early predictions has 5 teams ahead of us that we beat last year. Louisville, Texas, Iowa State, Virginia and Houston and all these teams lost quite a bit off their rosters with the possible exception of Virginia. I don't even think it will be questionable, next year's UT squad will be better than this year's team by a good margin.
That will depend on how well they work together as a team, don't need any prima-donnas.

Way too early preseason polls are just that -too early. These basketball writers, personalities, and other so-called experts are putting these out there to get clicks and reactions. I don’t put any stock in them.

Truth is all teams now have infusion of new players which need to mesh together to win. If Vols mesh together and you’d think D is a non negotiable, then we’ve got a really good chance of being in the mix most of the year

We still turned over almost our entire roster.

When I compare our talent to other teams, I do not see us Top 10 at all. I can see Top 20-25 in terms of talent though. What we have is a coach that can build a team, and he can gel talent, and he can then leverage the strengths and weaknesses of his team against other teams as well as anyone in the country. As a result, I expect he will take this Top 20-25 talent and make a Top 10 team out of it at a minimum.

I assume you are challenging my talent comparison belief which is based on the combination of the individual players' future NBA projections, and are not challenging my belief that Barnes will have the team in the Top 10 at a minimum because he is gifted at gelling them into a team that can beat equal or better pure talent?

If so, then I guess I am good company from a pure talent comparison belief....but I am literally disagreeing with all of these that project us not finishing in the Top 10 by saying I believe we will:

Rankings tend to overvalue 5 star freshman who haven't proved anything. The Vols have proven players who have already produced at a high level at the collegiate level. We may have the best 1-4 in the nation. Certainly top 5. I am concerned with how we will matchup up with teams with two 6'11+ guys inside, but we have the best defensive coach in the nation and multiple 6'5 to 6'7 guys that give us an height advantage at the guard position. Either way, we may be able to score 90+ on anyone.
