CBJ left out of top 25.

#1 is the guy I wanted instead of CBJ.

Amazing how many coaches on that list were thought to be big time "sexy" hires. Texas is practically printing money and yet their championship hire was a total flop.

To think CBJ belongs on that list is laughable. He's got us heading in the right direction and some are too quick to forget the situation he inherited. I do think he needs to upgrade his coaching staff in order to get over the hump and I think that may have cost us some recruits this cycle. But ultimately, he's done a great job here.

No reason that Butch should be on that list. Assuming he takes care of business Saturday, he will have trended upwards 4 years in a row with a 9-3 season and a pretty good bowl game. This insatiable appetite for give-it-to-me-now success is ridiculous. Butch is pretty much where he should be, with one unfortunate loss to USCe.

Too many people expect us to be the Saban model: immediate major success with seemingly little resistance. Butch is not Saban, but that's ok. I still believe in Butch and believe he is building and has built a great program.

They already have Lovie at #18 in his first season at a program like Illinois? Like he was supposed to immediately turn them around? Kinda dumb.

What is so sick about CFB is that if you look at these guys 3 years from now, many will still be paid from these schools via contract along with their check from their current coaching gig. They'll wind up as an coordinator in CFB or special-skills coach (i.e. Dooley) in the NFL. This recycling of coaches not only perpetuates mediocrity but also prevents up-coming talent from getting their shot sooner rather than later (if at all). This is all made possible by the dump-truck load of cash flowing into universities thanks to E$PN.

I saw where Kliff Kingsbury was on the hot seat at Texas Tech, obviously we have no idea if anything would happen, but is he somebody you guys would consider as coming to Tennessee as an OC/QB coach?

I doubt he's in the top 75. Only a few loud nutjobs think butch should be on the hot seat. Actually it's a really bad look for our fan base.

I wonder how many of these guys are repeat offenders....and how they keep getting jobs?

The big 3 we wanted and reached out to was strong, dykes and fedora. All said no thanks to us. And Jones took the gig.

We may have reached out to those guys and I know Strong was offered first, but I've never read anything to indicate that Dykes or Fedora were ahead of Jones on the shortlist.

Tennessee didn't offer Dykes the job... His name came up as a candidate but there was no way we were going to hire another coach from La Tech. We may have reached out to Mike Gundy at Ok State, though.

Fedora has claimed he was offered... but didn't want to leave UNC after just one season.

Iirc, Fedora was. Not sure about Dykes, don't recall hearing much about him.

I remember Brian Kelly turning us down saying his kids didn't want to go to Knoxville

I really don't think that's true. After Fulmer was fired in '08, Kelly (while still at Cincinnati) reached out to Hamilton expressing an interest in the job but Hammy had a Kiffin fixation. Fulmer has told this story several times.

LOL, Sumlin is not on the hot seat and neither is the Kansas coach that just beat Texas for the first time since 1938
