CB Jadais Richard out for the year

Q: How do the Vol coaches replace him w less than 30 days to kickoff? Is it simply next man up from the players currently on campus or, are there alternatives such as encouraging a late walk-on and or transfer? (believe the portal is closed, right?)

Anyway, kid hardly played last year due to injuries while at Miami, so looks like opportunity is knocking in Knoxville!! Go Vols

The portal is only closed to entrants. I doubt there’s anyone worth a hoot still floating out there.

Who wrote that? Richard was behind Poteat and Merritt before the injury.

Just to play out the "what if"...
What if we were firmly in the 5 years of eligibility rule? This would have been Jadais Richard's last year of eligibility.

My first thought is he'd stay on track with his academics and do his rehab here under his "contract" with the UTAD. But is that reality now? I really have no idea.

(And by "now" I mean 4pm EDT on Aug. 4. You'd have to be a fortune teller (or a west coast court reporter) to opine beyond the moment.)

He was just a depth piece. BUT, hopefully this ain’t a sign of things to come
I just read an article about another player named Jayden Loftin who has been dismissed for repeatedly not holding up the standards of the program. No idea who he is. But I feel this IS a sign of things to come. No idea how many players are going to come and go, but it is going to likely happen every year. Players come in, and do not hold up what they agreed to when they signed? Count on it happening. Just opens a spot up for someone who DOES give his all. I get your sentiment, and hope it is as minimal as possible. But odds are a player here and there leaving because he doesn't get it? Fraid that is gonna happen. Might as well get used to it.

we’re talking about different things, I’m afraid that we’ll have more injuries like last season and it’ll have an effect on our success by reaching our left players who give their all.

Cause having a player out for the season before we even have fall camp worries me about the other players, and how the coaches will run practices

Loftin entered the portal in early January.

I hope the kid is OK and come back next year.
He is a RS Sr, this is likely where the “5 for 5” bites him in the butt. No more medical redshirts and such, when your 5 is up, you’re done. It’s unclear whether this applies or not since this is a “transition year” and players can play under the old or new system. Compliance office and NCAA (gulp) would have to sort it out.

That’s why this is disappointing even if he is “just depth”.

Even if he could come back, would he be worth the risk? Feel bad for the kid.

I've never even heard of Mr. Richard; but I do hope he has a healthy/speedy recovery.

The kid was injury prone coming in. Let's just keep our fingers crossed on our other injury prone players this camp(AC/Hobbs/Davis)

I hope the best for his recovery. Had to be a very high risk take from the portal since he barely played last year due to injury. Just another head scratcher on our portal strategy.
